Extractions: More "Patsy" When I first started conducting it felt unnatural to have my back to the audience. When you talk to somebody you dont turn around with your back to them, do you? But there is a tremendous amount that is communicated from the backyou have to learn to speak with it, says the dark-haired musician. Right now the gregarious Zukerman is in the thick of a 10-month-long concert tour. Having lived the rigors of life as an international concert soloist for nearly half of his 38 years, he must occasionally experience a drop in his characteristic joie de vivre, right? After all, he frequently performs a concert a night for 12 to 14 days in a row.
Pinchas Zukerman - A Gift For Music Darling of the critics, pinchas zukerman has been hailed by the Ottawa of Bielefeld, Germany), there s no doubt that the flamboyant violinist and conductor http://www.scena.org/lsm/sm7-6/Zukerman-en.html
Extractions: D arling of the critics, Pinchas Zukerman has been hailed by the Ottawa Citizen as having " brought energy and excitement to the National Arts Centre. It's no surprise that fans and musicians are cheering the fact he has signed on for at least another four years." (February 12, 2002) Variously acclaimed as " a musician of genius" ( Yediot Acharonot of Tel Aviv), " a veritable musical phenomenon" ( Al Arab Ay Yawm , Amman, Jordan), " a great magician" ( Neue WestfS lische of Bielefeld, Germany), there's no doubt that the flamboyant violinist and conductor stands out in this age of conformity and catering to the lowest common denominator. Zukerman plays his instrument with bewildering ease. As a conductor, his enthusiasm brings out the musical passion of his orchestra members, while he charms audience with his personal charisma and keeps the press on its toes. His high-voltage teaching style demands of his students both technical precision and shimmering sound. And yet this multitalented, consummate professional hasn't let it go to his head. La Scena Musicale talked with him in his office at Ottawa's National Arts Centre, slipping in between an administrative meeting and a rehearsal.

Extractions: Zukerman, violist Jethro Marks and cellist Amanda Forsyth teamed up with Linnebach and Deacon for the Mozart, a far more substantial achievement in structure and emotions elicited. Zukerman's presence was a jolt in the arm, galvanizing his mostly twentysomething colleagues to match his conviction and musicianship. Marks, who's also a violinist, showed uncanny ease over a wide range, a Zukerman sound-alike who made the echo-y banters between first violin and viola such a pleasure to hear. The cleanly articulated performance was elevated by an uncommon passion, both in the tender Adagio and in the finale that shifts abruptly from sadness to joy. Zukerman and his crew took liberties with phrasing and accent here and there, sliding over notes instead of enunciating each. The approach was slightly unconventional yet sensibly distinctive. Marks was the standout, with his brawny intonation and supple phrasing; Deacon, too, cranked up the ardor. The cello playing was almost as good. All six were in the groove, their teamwork seamless and their energy palpable. The music making was so inspired that the audience clamored for encores (none was offered).
