This third edition of the 2003-2004 Jagwire s comes at a time when many of our winter sports and fine art/student activities are coming to a close. Parents of seniors are busy making plans for graduation this spring, and most of us are looking forward to the end of another Minnesota winter and contemplating plans for the upcoming spring season. The staff and students are having a great year, and I have several informational items to share with you. The School Board has approved the 2004-2005 school calendar, and I am including it in this publication. It can also be found on the Bloomington website, www.bloomington.k12.mn.us. This should help in your long range planning, as many families plan vacations a year out. Please note that the last day of school is June 9, 2005 and that school policy does not allow students to take finals early. This June, we have modified the end of the year for seniors. Tuesday, June 8, 2004 will be the last day for our graduating seniors to attend school. Each senior will continue to have a final assessment in every class, which will be completed by June 8. Classes (and finals) will still be held Wednesday, June 9, 2004 for all 9th-11th graders. The seniors will have a graduation practice at 2:30 p.m. on June 9, where attendance is mandatory if they are participating in the graduation program. Graduation will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the Target Center in Minneapolis. The seniors last day is one day earlier than originally planned, and will give our counselors and faculty time to communicate with families and students that are close to satisfying the graduation requirements, an emotional time for someone in that situation.

R' Meir Dunset had a large house in Demycze which he inherited from his father. His son Zev was a Hebrew teacher. Mechel was a baker like his father. Both left Zablotow to the United States. R' Meir drowned in the Pruth River one summer day. R' Shalom Dunset owned a large house and a bakery oven on the street of the Main Synagogue. Was a well respected scholar, educated his children in Torah and general knowledge R' David Zeiler baked dinner rolls etc. Educated his children to be honest. All the houses in the city were built from lumber, the roofs from wooden shingles and the construction workers were mostly Jews who specialized in their profession. Only a few houses were built from stones or bricks. R' Natan Fuchs and his sons R' Isaac the eldest, Moshe, Yakov, Avraham and Shabtay the youngest were all-powerful and excellent builders of wooden houses. R' Natan was a community politician and for a while a Gabay at the Main Synagogue as well as his sons R' Isaac and Avraham. They educated their children to follow in their profession. R' Baruch Singer was a superb builder of wooden houses. An honest man who educated his children in Cheders and his profession.

CONSTANT LAMBERT (1905-1951): Piano Concerto, Merchant Seamen - Suite, Pomona, Prize Fight. This excellent disc contains a previously unheard film score (for a wartime documentary) full of vivid imagery and wonderfully imaginative scoring, to rival anything of Vaughan Williams in the medium, together with the 19-year-old Lambert's earliest surviving orchestral work, the ballet Prize Fight, which could pass itself off as high-quality Bliss without much trouble. Throughout his music an uneasy undercurrent of impending tragedy runs under the fantastically crafted, cosmopolitan surface, and this is what gives his remarkably consistent output its unquestionable vitality, tension and strength. This disc is worthy of the highest recommendation. David Owen Norris (piano), BBC Concert Orchestra; Barry Wordsworth.
