Extractions: Number 5 - October 2002 From the President The proposed change to Article IX of the bylaws, covering nominations and elections, passed with 239 members voting for the change, and 18 against. The Nominating Committee, chaired by Roger Lawson, is using the new procedure for this year's election. The complete text of the changed bylaw is posted on the ARLIS/NA Web site. The Executive Boards mid-year meeting took place over the weekend of 10-11 August at the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture in New York City. I would like to extend the entire boards thanks to Greta Earnest, chief librarian, who was our gracious host. Here are some of the highlights of the meeting: Approved the 2003 budget; we are in good shape, but still too dependent on the financial success of the conference to cover our operating costs; Approved the slate of officers for 2003 recommended by the Nominating Committee; Transferred monies to fully fund the Speakers Fund to help fulfill Goal II of the strategic plan; this was possible because of the success of the St. Louis conference; Approved new approaches to fundraising, both from individuals and from businesses and corporations;
