Extractions: Rose Chung presents 17th Annual Miss Asian American Pageant, August 21, 2002. Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco, California, USA. This is one of the fnest pageant I have seen; short of the state level and with the limitd budget; this is a great job done by Rose Chung and her followers. The contestants have fantastic stage control, at least they don't show much stage fright. The speaking ability of most is incredible. There are great sponsors and the judges really picked the right ones. The make up did the tricks for some of the girls, the winner or the queen got real lucky and have great make up done for the gruelling contest; I can't recognize her photo from the poster, but she looked the best on stage that night. I wonder how she looks without make up and in real person with jeans. I took photos whenever I can due to my seating and camera speed limitation. I don't discriminate with my camera; but I did shot more of the winner, and this is the one I mentally picked, which normally is not my business but to cover the event. I have about 333 photos, showing the moments and in full monitor pixels. I have a hard time on some photos to figure out who they are, but I thought it was interesting that I figured some of the names out by using the group photos, you guess it, by the heights. Either you are 5' 1" or 5' 6". It took 20 hours or more to put up all these photos online. I am sorry I couldn't put them up immediately and nicer yet, before the pageant. One of this day, I am going to retire from covering the pageant, and maybe just watch it once in awhile with a purchase ticket.

It may also prove useful for reference and as a selection aid for library sound collections. Though content is restricted primarily to the world of current popular music, names of some other entertainers will be found. There has been a need for such a combination reference work/authority file for some time since national (U.S.) sources of bibliographic and authority data seldom provide adequate data for cataloging these materials, or for use with Hispanic audiences. This should be obvious by comparing the many differences between the data presented here and that found in many library databases. Libraries hoping to provide even minimum level cataloging data will find it necessary to go beyond the limitations found in today's cataloging environment. Libraries depending on the national name authority file (cited as NAF in some of the entries here) will find NAF to be a real barrier to the provision of adequate library services because of the incomplete and inaccurate nature of so much of the Hispanic materials data contained there. Given the current institutional environment with its strong, deeply ingrained resistance to

Extractions: The Italian tenor Enrico Caruso holds a unique place in musical history as the first operatic singer whose recordings sold in millions, and who created an international reputation on the strength of these. Carusos robust tone and musical sincerity made him both an ideal stage and recording artist, whose voice the primitive acoustic recording technology of the early twentieth century was able to reproduce with startling fidelity. The arias and ensembles in this 5th volume of our complete Caruso series-extracted from the operas of Gounod, Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Leoncavallo and Franchetti-show this tenor at his finest. Once again, engineer Ward Marston restores these original 78s, bringing Carusos brilliant tenor voice thrillingly back to life.
