He founded Tukong Moosul, after spending three years training the Special Forces in the South Korean military. In 1982 Master Yi came to the United States and began teaching Tukong Moosul in Austin Texas. He currently resides and teaches in New Jersey. Tukong North School was first opened in 1984 by Lonnie Lepp in northwest Austin. The school serves the northwest Austin community with free self defense classes, demonstrations at community and school events, as well as offering martial arts classes for all persons regardless of their ability to pay or their physical challenges. Lonnie Lepp has been in the martial arts since 1978. He holds a 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a 4th degree black belt in Ju Jit Su and a 3rd degree black belt in TUKONG Moosul. The commander of the South Korean TuKong unit asked the same question and got the same answer. The general ordered his top martial arts fighters to design the best program for combat fighting. The soldiers designed a program that utilized different techniques from different styles. They created a new form called Tu Kong Moo Sul (TKMS - Special Combat Warrior Technique).

History Of Tukong Moosul tukong moosul. tukong moosul is the name given to the martial arts system that Master Yi organized, and that he used to train the Korean Special Forces. Master Yi entered the army at the age of 19 http://www.johnpress.com/zarts/history/tk_his.html
Extractions: Master Yi entered the army at the age of 19, as all Korean boys do. His career took a different path when he won a divisional Martial Arts tournament. He was noticed by the Headquarters, and General Pak requested Master Yi to be his aid. Master Yi had entered basic training under the division commanded by General Chang Ki Oh. When General Chang found out about Master Yi and heard that he had been transferred, he immediately had him transferred back to his division as a personal aid. During the period of 1978-1979, General Chang Ki Oh asked Master Yi to set up a team to train the Special Forces. This team consisted of Colonel H. O. Park, Major S. H. Choi, Major D. M. Yang, Major C. H. Lee, and Captain K. D. Lee. On January 7 1978, Master Yi trained the 5th R.O.K Special Forces Division. The Martial Art was named Tuk Jeon Moosul. The philosophy of this Martial Art was Il Kyuk il Sal (One time cut, one time finish). This was the birth of what is today Tukong Moosul.

Extractions: Tukong Moosul is a complete martial arts system developed by Grandmaster Wonik Yi. Tukong officially began as the self defense system of the South Korean Special Forces. However, the roots of Tukong run much deeper, and its origins can be traced back many generations, to the Dae Yeon Sa Temple where Grandmaster spent his youth. Tukong Moosul is based on the distance theory. The martial artist practicing Tukong is trained in four areas: Throwing (leverage techniques), Punching (hand techniques), Kicking (foot techniques), and Weapons (extended body techniques). The Tukong Academy also offers classes in combat training and self defense, as well as classes in Ip Sun, or Tai Chi. Master Yi's Tukong Moosul Academy is located in a brand new, 10,000 square foot training facility, the finest in Austin. Our group of instructors are among the best and most experienced in the industry, some with over 20 years experience working with Grandmaster Yi. Tukong Moosul is an ideal martial art system for anyone, at any age, from children to adults. Tukong is a traditional style of martial arts, and we take pride in cultivating a family environment. We specialize in character development, confidence building, and best of all, our classes are fun! Tukong is much more than self defense; Tukong is a way of life.

However, THE SOCIETY OF THE HWA RANG is a free association of martial artists devoted to the arts as a profession. When it was created in 1996, THE SOCIETY primarily, but not intentionally, came from backgrounds in the Korean arts of Hapkido, Hwa Rang Do, Kuk Sool Won, but is open to all systems and styles. THE SOCIETY 's affiliation with the soft Korean arts is an accident of history due to the personal narrative of its founder, Bob Duggan, who became a devotee of Hapkido/Hwa Rang Do in 1968, and in 1980 founded ESI. It was in the year of '68 that he and his close friend, Vicente Montenegro were initiated into the arts as the first students of Grand Master Joo Sang Lee, and in 1972 came under the personal tutelage of his younger brother, Grand Master Joo Bang Lee, founder of the World Hwa Rang Do Association. THE SOCIETY OF THE HWARANG is open to martial artists of every discipline.

Extractions: The origin of the Dae Yeon Sa Temple can be traced to AD 1200 years. The first original Temple was Dae Yeon Am, meaning "Great Achievement Place". It was located in North Korea, and founded by Master Ji Suk along with two other masters. During this time the masters practiced Buddhism without the Martial Arts. It was only after Master Song Jae and Master Bup Kwang came to the temple that the practice of Martial Arts began around AD 1269. Several hundred years later, the temple moved to South Korea (1692) and the name changed from Dae Yeon Am to Dae Yeon Sa ("Great Achievement Temple"). At that time, three masters from China joined and continued to develop the Martial Arts. That is why the origin of the Tukong Moosul system is both a hard and soft style, a blending of Chinese and Korean techniques. In 1965, Grandmaster Wonik Yi went to the temple and began training in Buddhism and the Martial Arts. In Korea there are two types of Buddhist temples. One is similar to a church of missionary work and is open to all people. The other is solely for individuals who wish to seek self-enlightment. These temples are ones of sanctuary and privacy, and are not open for public visitation. A few of the temples in Korea choose the later type. The Dae Yeon Sa Temple is a very traditional temple that teaches Buddhism and Martial Arts. This is the tradition that is taught to the students of Tukong Moosul today.

Extractions: ABOUT TUKONG MOOSUL Tukong Moosul gets its name from the elite Tu Kong (Special Combat) commando unit of the South Korean Army. The originators of Tukong Moosul took the best of other martial arts and brought the techniques together into combat-oriented, effective training. Tukong incorporates techniques from other Korean martial arts like Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido , as well as Judo and Kung Fu General Chang K. Oe, commander of the Tu Kong unit, enlisted Won Ik Yi from army headquarters and several top fighters from within the Tu Kong unit to develop the training. Won Ik Yi was trained in Shaolin-style martial arts as a child and incorporated many Kung Fu techniques in the original Tukong Moosul curriculum. Others, including Tukong Moosul Association Grandmaster In Ki Kim, one of the Tu Kong unit masters, have added techniques in more recent years. Tukong Moosul, like other military martial arts, is all about taking out the enemy. Some of the Tukong Moosul organizations specifically prohibit children from learning Tukong Moosul, instead recommending that they study the sport-oriented Tae Kwon Do Return to Top of Page For information Email
