Thanks to new, high-tech sporting equipment, modern-day disabled athletes can now compete in their favorite games and sports. Perfecting their spin move World War II may have robbed soldiers of their limbs or the ability to use them but it didn't rob them of their desire to remain physically active. Out of this desire sprung wheelchair basketball, which is now played in leagues worldwide. And though most of the rules have remained the same since its inception, the equipment has undergone a radical overhaul. Racing chairs Basketball players aren't the only ones to benefit from these technological advancements. Racers once had to push 30 pounds of wheelchair across the finish line, and that was after they had stripped it down to little more than a pair of wheels. But the racing chairs of today weigh less than 15 pounds, and that includes a now-standard third wheel that lends greater stability.
