In New Zealand, Cross Country skiing is still a small sport, but Cross Country skiers in New Zealand are blessed with 55km of the most well prepared trails in the world. It is the Waiorau Snow Farm's goal, not to just be one of the best X-C resorts in the world, but to one day be considered the best Cross Country Resort in the world. From our base lodge which can house over 70 guests with both ensuite and shared facility rooms (all of which are "walk out the door skiing") being the best doesn't mean just having the best trails, of which we do aspire to, we wish to have the best off trail facilities as well. Ski or skate on groomed tracks, or choose from kilometer after kilometer of off track bliss on the Pisa Range. Skiing The Waiorau Snow Farm track standard rivals the best tracks in the Northern Hemisphere with classic and skating lanes on all trails. Trails have been designed for all levels of Cross Country skier. The trails wind through the Meg River Valley to the North and the South with views of the Southern Alps contrasted with the rolling slopes. The normally light dry snow makes for excellent skiing. The main season is from the beginning of July to the end of September. Events are held during the season and cater for all levels from the citizen skier to the international racer. If you are young or old, beginner or expert there is skiing for you at Waiorau Snow Farm.

The very best of this, is the sprawling expanse of hills, valleys and broad ridges of the Bogong High Plains. A number of mountains rise out of this plain and the area is dotted with historical cattle men's huts. This area is easily accessible from Falls Creek. Falls Creek resort itself has the unique Nordic Bowl. This is a sheltered area of flat and gentle slopes ideal for cross country ski learning and tuition and cross country race training. It is also a rallying point for ski tourers heading out into the national park. From Windy Corner, it is an easy ski of less than one kilometer to the Nordic Bowl. Within the resort there is a network of 20 km of groomed cross country trails and this is the key location in Victoria for cross country ski racing. The total groomed trails available from Falls Creek is between 30-60 km at any given time. Falls Creek is also the site of Australia's premier international cross country skiing event. The

Extractions: Welcome to the Nelson Nordic Ski Club Website! The popular trails are only ten minutes south of Nelson at the Whitewater Ski Area turnoff. We currently have over twenty-five kilometers of trails developed and maintained by paid and volunteer club members. There are lights for night skiing, two warming huts and trails rated beginner to expert. The trails are well maintained using a state of the art Pisten Bulley grooming machine for both track skiing (classic style) and skate skiing. The grooming machine and all operating costs are paid for by club members. Annual trail maintenance is done by club volunteers. The trails are open seven days a week and the night loop is lit until 10:00 p.m every evening, and 12:00 New Years Eve. A membership costs $15 per month or less for adults for a four month season. Tourists and occasional users are welcome to use the facilities for a daily fee. SNOWPHONE Call (250) for the latest in snow conditions on our trail system.
