Extractions: Dogs Continue International Series Success and Send the Saints Marching Orders by Paul Renouf, April 28, 2001 Photos The Denver Bulldogs took to the oval for the first time since winning the 2000 National Championships for the fifth International Series game between the Bulldogs, and the Gaels at the ANZAC Day tournament. In the International Rules games, laws from both Australian Rules Football and Gaelic Football codes are integrated. The match started as usual with the Denver Bulldogs challenged by having to kick and judge the flight of a the round 'soccer-style' ball. The Gaels meanwhile, appear to find the more rigorous tackling of the Australians unconventional to their play. Nevertheless, in the tidiest play and officiating of a Denver based International Rules match yet, the ANZAC weekend game was played under beautiful 80 degree weather. Disputes, common from both clubs in the past, were well diminished. In the first quarter, the Dogs scored their only six-point goal early and looked to be off to a great start. But the Gaels held the Dogs and the remainder of the match was always close. Gaels scored a six-pointer in the forth term that brought the Irish within striking distance of the Bulldogs. But the Dogs held on with great goal keeping and better fitness which resulted in most of the second half play in the Bulldogs offensive zone - albeit with bad goal kicking. After 60 minutes of play, it was the Dogs up with a score: 1.7.14.(41), 14 point winners over the Gaels with a score of 1.4. 9.(27)

Extractions: Dogs Comfortable at Home. July 22, 2001, by Paul Renouf The Dallas Magpies were comfortably beaten by the Denver Bulldogs at Cherry Knolls Park in Littleton, Colorado on Saturday, July 21. Dallas came out strong in the first quarter and look as though they would threaten the Bulldogs early, but as the game wore on the Doggies greater reserve of players along with the ability to find space and execute pin-point disposals enabled the Denver side to pull away and win soundly. Bulldog Captain, Kyle Weir was voted Best on Ground (BOG). Dallas on-baller, Emison in addition to Dogs' defenseman, Matt ' Gun ' Richards and forward, Brian Calkins polled equal Runner-Up BOG votes. Aaron Ogorzalek was the winner of the Player's Player Award with an outstanding debut game. The Clangor Award, for the most ungraceful mistake, went to Jim ' Pickles ' Baldwin for hungrily bombing for goal which resulted in a shocker out-on-the-full. Extractions: MEDIA RELEASE: September 26 2001 YOUNG AUSSIE VOLUNTEERS OFF TO PNG Tomorrow, Friday 28 September, eight young Australians will leave for Papua New Guinea to work with the Koiari people in villages along the Kokoda Track. The Koiari are the people who worked with Australian soldiers in World War II. "We are already friends and Australians will be welcomed into our homes," Chief Omi Aubi, of the village of Efogi, says. "The ties that brought us together during the war are just as strong now and need to be maintained through the hearts and deeds of our youth." Efogi village teacher Alex Wagere says, "During the war Australians were our brothers. When the volunteers come, we will welcome them as our grandchildren." Six young volunteers (aged 21-26) and their two young team leaders have spent the last three months fundraising to meet the costs for the project. In PNG, they will spend two months in the villages of Manari, Efogi and Kagi, located along the Kokoda Track. There, they will work with the Koiari people, assisting them to build houses from bush materials, coordinate health education projects, prepare coffee plantations and hold youth and sport-related events. Developed jointly by Australian Volunteers International and Youth Challenge Australia, the project aims to provide overseas volunteering options for younger Australians and to reinforce the bond between Australians and the Koiari people.
