Hero of that initial period was Lismore's Dan Shanahan who scored both of the winners first half goals and also helped himself to another in the second period along with as fine a point the championship is likely to see this season and in so doing played a significant role in the Decies facile 3-21 to 1-8 victory.

But if Lowe looked like something out of King's "Creepshow," Zambrano rolled out of "Creepshow II." In one of the ugliest displays of control in recent memory, Zambrano walked nine batters (the most by a starter in Tampa Bay history) and plunked another to allow the Sox to crawl back into contention, 7-6. Zambrano, who was left by manager Lou Piniella to stew in his own mediocrity, wound up firing 132 pitches (only 68 for strikes) before he mercifully was lifted with two outs in the fifth.

Extractions: The Gaelic Sports Club Luxembourg Asbl was officially founded in 1978 and is the oldest Irish association in Luxembourg. It is open to all nationalities and, at present, has a membership drawn from seven different countries. The aims of the GSCL are to give the Irish in Luxembourg, and their friends, facilities for practising sports - especially the great field games that are so popular in our homeland. The GSCL provides back-up for our football and hurling teams, and there are fitness-training sessions each Monday and Thursday evening. A recent development has been the emergence of a women's football team. Six years ago we organised our first international 7-a-side tournament. Eight teams entered, including one each from Paris and the Netherlands. Since then our tournament has gone from strength to strength and we now have teams from Ireland, Belgium, Guernsey, Spain and Germany also taking part. Other tournaments soon followed and, as a result of the interest shown, the GAA decided to establish a European Board. This in turn has led to the setting-up of the European league which for 2002 will be based on the results of seven tournaments played during the year. The GSCL also organises, with the participation of the Comhaltas branch, get-togethers at places of historic interest (for example Arras, Autun, Langres, Rome, Tournai, Würzburg) which are most enjoyable sporting, cultural and social events. During the course of these weekend outings the Poc fada na hEorpa competition takes place, as well as exhibitions of hurling and Gaelic football.
