Back to Main Page The Mesa Association of Sports for the Disabled offers two different cycling programs for athletes with physical disabilities. One program is for foot cranked bi or tricycles and follows the rules and regulations of the National Disabled Sports Alliance. Athletes can compete at varying distances ranging from 1,500 meters to 10,000 meters and may utilize either regulation bicycles or adult trikes. Athletes must provide their own bicycles or tricycles for both practice and competition. There is no cost for the cycling program. Cycling season begins in February and continues through April. Handcycling is offered for athletes as both a recreational and competitive opportunity. Handcycles are specially designed cycles that are cranked by hand. The season for handcycles runs from September through December. The Association provides handcycles for use by athletes. Initially, the athlete will work on improve skills, strength and endurance in a recreational setting with an eye towards participation in competitive road races.
