Golbal Klub Junior goalball CLUB JUNIOR. goalball is a unique game for blind people and forthose with poor sight. goalball is unlike any other popular sport. http://www.goalball.co.yu/
Extractions: GOALBALL CLUB JUNIOR Goalball is a unique game for blind people and for those with poor sight. It is played with a ball which weighs 1.25 kilogrammes on a field with the same dimensions as a volleyball court. The ball contains instruments inside that rattle when it is in motion allowing game participants to hear its path. Each team consists of 3 players. Players with minimal sight wear an eye-mask covering in order to insure that all participants are on equal terms in this game. Austria is considered to be the homeland of goalball because it was created there by a blind Austrian man and German fighters during the second world war. Goalball is unlike any other popular sport. Not only is it an expression of the modernity of our collective civilisation, it is the best form of rehabilitation and resocialisation of the blind populace, and of those who have recently lost their sight, back into society.

The Game Of Goalball THE GAME OF goalball By Dian Heil. HISTORY. goalball was developed followingWorld War II as a rehabilitative activity for newly blinded veterans. http://www.mysportsvision.org/goalball.html
Extractions: By Dian Heil (The following information was taken from the book Goalball, by Eugenia Kriebel and Joe R. Dominquez and an article written by Stephen Kearney and Rosanna Copeland.) Because of the recent mainstreaming of visually impaired children into the public schools, physical educators are constantly looking for new ways to involve these children in their classes on an equal basis with the other children. Goalball places the visually impaired child on equal terms and gives them the chance to be "part of the group." The game takes little equipment and helps all children with tracking, spatial awareness, orientation, coordination, and teamwork. HISTORY Goalball was developed following World War II as a rehabilitative activity for newly blinded veterans. Several European countries claimed its origin...Belgium, Austria, and Germany. The European countries have been involved with the game since the mid 1940's. The game was designed specifically for the blind to help them gain skills necessary to a newly visually impaired person. DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME The game can briefly be described as an indoor court game for the visually impaired. It is played on an indoor court about the size of a volleyball court. The actual court measures eighteen (18) meters by nine (9) meters for both mens and women's play. The entire end line (9 meters in width - approximately 30 feet) is the goal area.

Children's Services - MAB Recreational Goalball League MAB Recreational goalball League. About the Sport. goalball is a team sportthat was created to be played by the blind and visually impaired. http://www.mab.ca/en/services/g_goalball-c.html
Extractions: MAB Recreational Goalball League This league was created by members of the MAB Blind Transition Group (senior high school students) to promote the sport of goalball for young blind and visually impaired people who want to play recreationally, not competitively. It provides young people who are blind or visually impaired the opportunity to socialize and participate in a sport where their disability does not place them at a disadvantage. About the Sport Goalball is a team sport that was created to be played by the blind and visually impaired. All players wear blindfolds to ensure an equal playing field amongst participants with various degrees of sight. Each team has five members, three of whom can be on the court at a given time. The court measures 162 square meters (9 metres x 18 metres) and has a smooth surface (i.e. gymnasium floor). The objective is to roll the ball (using a bowling-like motion) over the opposing team's goal line, while their players drop and slide to block it. The ball used is similar to a basketball in size and contains bells to allow players to locate it through sound. Goal lines are marked by tape on the court surface, enabling players to orient themselves using touch. Games are divided into two, seven-minute halves and are refereed by at least two sighted volunteers. Currently, the MAB Recreational Goalball League is open to blind or visually impaired people between the ages of 14-25 and new players are welcome. The only cost to players is for transportation to and from games, which take place at the MAB (7010 Sherbrooke West), mostly on Saturday afternoons. Protective equipment and the special ball are supplied, thanks to a donation from the MAB Users' Committee.
