ParentsTalk: Activities: Gaelic Football From Cathy (Ireland) The official game is from Ireland and is played on a field the size of an American football field with netted goals and a ball similar to http://www.parents-talk.com/familyfun/activities/act_0011.html
Extractions: The official game is from Ireland and is played on a field the size of an American football field with netted goals and a ball similar to the one used in soccer. The game is composed of two teams of 15 players. Both teams play continuously for a 45 minute period. When friends and family gather in Ireland to play, any open pitch or field is used. The people interested in playing are divided up into two equal teams. The object of the game is to score more points than the opposing team. Points are scored by moving the ball down the field to kick field goals (ball kicked over the cross bar) or by kicking the ball into the netted goal. Field goals are worth one point and regular goals are worth three points The game is started by a toss of the ball in the center of the field. The game proceeds until a penalty is committed or a goal is made. When a penalty occurs the opposing team gets the ball at the location of the penalty. After a goal is made the opposing team gets to kick the ball downfeild from the end zone where the goal was just scored. Whoever gets the ball proceeds to go for a goal. The game lasts 45 minutes with no time outs. At the end of the 45 minutes, the team with the most points wins.
