Rhinos Who Skateboard Published in Hardcover by Chronicle Books (May, 1999) Author: Julie Mammano Amazon base price: Buy one from zShops for: Average review score: Inappropriate Content for Age Group I bought this book for my two-year-old son who loves to watch skateboarders at our local park. While this book has fantastic illustrations, I feel that the written content is inappropriate for children of any age. I anticipated a nice story about Rhinos and their adventures in skateboarding. Instead, this book fosters the "teen punk" skateboard culture of questionable language and social skills. For example, there is one page in which the Rhinos are making fun of less talented skateboarders at a "geekfest". The book is littered with slang such as "throw down pole jams" and "sick flip tricks". As a mother who purchases books to encourage reading and learning, I find this book totally inappropriate for any age group. Our kids learn street language soon enough without seeing it in print. So, my son and I just look at the pictures!

Fingerboards can be used to develop specific strength, power and endurance for climbing, and your wall or crag sessions can then be used to convert these gains into climbing terms. Which board? With regards to what type you choose, there are so many purpose built resin fingerboards on the market, some of which seem to be somewhat over-designed for what is essentially a simple job. Home made wooden boards are often just as effective and they can be made easily with minimal cost. The best are those which use T-nuts for adjustability, to enable a combination of wooden and resin holds to be utilised. If your fingerboard has no large jugs then it can be used in combination with a pull-up bar for pure arm work. Fingerboard training explained A fingerboard can be used for a wide range of highly worthwhile training exercises which can be split into two basic categories: Isolation exercises (which train the fingers and arms separately) or Synergistic exercises (which train both arms and fingers in combination).

The excitement peaked when the run ended with the board uncontrollably flipping out off the course. Welcome to the Itty Bitty X Games, the most enthralling competition a 12-year-old with his dad in tow could hope for on Thursday. This craziness took place at noon in a fingerboard competition. The picnic table was three inches tall. The jump to the half pipe covered a good 18 inches or so. And it was a competition where nobody lost and everybody won. Still, preteen fingers shook nervously as they gripped a four-inch skateboard for a 30-second run. Kids flocked to the mini-course at a sponsor's trailer, where the rails and jumps and obstacles looked like props from "Stuart Little."
