Extractions: DiBianca (Nov. 24) Amy DiBianca ran the ninth-best 6,000-meter time in Emory University history to lead the Eagles in the NCAA Division III National Championships. DiBianca, a freshman, finished 58th out of 213 runners with a time of 23 minutes 22 seconds. Her time was the third fastest by an Eagle this season, and the fastest by a freshman at an NCAA national meet at that distance in school history. This also marked the third time this season that she has finished first on the team. Extractions: The BIG EAST will be well-represented at the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championships, as four women's and three men's squads qualified for the event. On the women's side, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Providence and Villanova will all participate. The Georgetown, Providence and Villanova men's squads also qualified to compete. The BIG EAST Conference announced that five institutions have accepted invitations for membership into the league. Those schools are: University of Cincinnati, DePaul University, University of Louisville, Marquette University and the University of South Florida. The additions were authorized by a vote of the league's Presidents.

Awards handed out at fall sports banquet Senior Chrissy Boyd Lehigh held its annual fall sports banquet on Sunday, January 18 inside the University Center on the Packer Campus. Six Lehigh athletes captured awards on the afternoon, three men and three women, in a program that included dinner, presentation of three awards, and reflections from the coach and members of the team. Lehigh athletes excel on and off the trail Rob Hampson The Lehigh mens cross country team is known for its endurance and stamina on the trail. But this fall, the team also proved they have what it takes to get the job done in the classroom as well. The mens team finished this past semester with the fourth highest grade point average out of all Lehigh varsity teams, averaging a 3.22 GPA as a team. The team had twelve men make the Academic Honor Roll or better, led by Daniel Espositos perfect 4.0 semester.

Extractions: An avid runner, Coffin has stayed active in the running world. He finished fifth in the Masters National Indoor Mile Run and won the Masters New England Half Marathon in 2002. He has run marathons as well, finishing 17th (2:19:36) in the Houston Marathon in 1989 and 47th (2:27:04) in the Boston Marathon in 1990. Coffin was named the Maine Runner of the Year in 1994 by New England Running magazine and was voted Maine Runner of the Year by the Maine Track Club in 1993. He had his track shoes retired by Colby in 1993. Debbie Aiken Debbie begins her 20th season on Mayflower Hill as head coach of the women's cross country and track and field programs. In her tenure the Skowhegan, Maine native has led the women harriers to state, regional and NESCAC honors. She has coached 10 individual runners to national competition and they have earned 11 All-American honors. Since 1993 Coach Aitken has led her teams to national competition in 1993, 1994, 1996 and 2000, placing 12th, 10th, 14th and 21st. A graduate of Plymouth State College, Aitken earned a master's degree in education from Frostburg State in Maryland. Before coming to Colby in 1984 she coached at SUNY-Cortland for six years.
