Sie hatten sich geweigert, Leibeigene des Gutsherren Detlef von Rumohr zu werden, an den Kappeln und sein Umland gefallen war, und Herzog Christian Albrecht gehuldigt. 1667 wurde die Siedlung zum Flecken erhoben. Seine Blüte erlebte der kleine Ort von 1750 bis 1864 als Fischer- und Schiffersiedlung. Als 1864 die preußische Armee im Zuge des Zweiten Schleswigschen Krieges in Arnis übersetzte, wohnten dort 1.045 Menschen, die über 88 Schiffe verfügten. 1869 wurde für die nun preußische Provinz Schleswig-Holstein die erste Städteordnung ( Stadtrecht ) erlassen. Sie gab auch den 25 Flecken ein einheitliches, gemindertes Stadtrecht. Ab 1927 war Arnis der einzige verbliebene Flecken in der Provinz. Die Schiffahrt lag darnieder, die Einwohnerschaft war auf gut 500 geschrumpft. Schon 1885 hatte die Provinzialregierung geurteilt: "Der Flecken Arnis ... bildet ein besonders trauriges Beispiel des allmählichen Verkommens dieser der inneren Kraft entbehrenden zwergartigen Stadtgemeinden ... als Marktort kommt ihm irgendwelche Bedeutung nicht zu ... Die Hoffnungen nach einem neuen Aufschwunge des Fleckens - gehören - in die Kategorie der Utopien ..." (LAS Abt.301 N 3314 - 16.9.1885, Ablehnung Kredit Kleinbahn). Picture Gallery Testing is a difficult time for everyone. The testing determines whether or not you are capable of advancing in rank. If you pass, then you receive your new rank at the next class after the belts and certificates arrive, if you don't, then you train for 6 months and try again. Testing occurs only twice a year, once in January and once in July. Testing is difficult and you can fail (although I've yet to see that happen to anyone). It is meant to put pressure on those taking the test because it shows how much knowledge you have under pressure as in real life situations.

We at The Defense Institute and the Vee Arnis Jitsu community, as a whole, have lost our first member to Operation Iraqi Freedom. Master Sergeant Richard Ferguson, of the 10th Special Forces Group, was killed faithfully serving his nation. Master Sergeant Ferguson was instrumental in helping to implement the DICTATE course as standard training for the 10th SFG(A). "Fergie" was loved by everyone. His mannerisms could make anyone laugh at any time, making him a great guy to train or have a beer with. You cannot run into anyone from Special Forces who didn't know Fergie. He had been with Special Forces for 28 years and had chosen to defer his retirement to lead a relatively young team that needed his leadership and expertise for their mission in the "Sunni Triangle". He was a true warrior and hero. We can all be proud that Fergie was a member of our family and a friend.
