Mental Models Website The mental models theory of thinking and reasoning, as propounded by Kenneth Craik and Philip JohnsonLaird. Site created by Johnson-Laird and Ruth Byrne. http://www.tcd.ie/Psychology/Ruth_Byrne/mental_models/
Extractions: The idea that people rely on mental models can be traced back to Kenneth Craiks suggestion in 1943 that the mind constructs "small-scale models" of reality that it uses to anticipate events. Mental models can be constructed from perception, imagination, or the comprehension of discourse. They underlie visual images, but they can also be abstract, representing situations that cannot be visualised. Each mental model represents a possibility. Mental models are akin to architects' models or to physicists' diagrams in that their structure is analogous to the structure of the situation that they represent, unlike, say, the structure of logical forms used in formal rule theories. In this respect they are a little like pictures in the "picture" theory of language described by Ludwig Wittgenstein in 1922. Cognitive scientists have explored mental models and the mind generally. They have carried out an extensive programme of study on

The seminar director was Robert Gordon , co-originator (with Jane Heal) of the "Simulation Theory" of "folk psychology". The theory of "folk psychology," i.e. of how ordinary people understand, predict, and explain one another's actions, thoughts, and motivations, is of considerable importance in contemporary Psychology, Cognitive Science, and Philosophy of Mind, and is thought to be highly relevant to the understanding of psychological disorders such as autism. The focus of this seminar was principally on the more philosophical aspects of the issue. For a brief introduction to the seminar topic, prepared by Professor Gordon for prospective participants

The Psychology Of Hypocrisy Article on the types of hyprocisy and how to deal with hypocrisy. http://www.hardcoretruth.com/Hypocrisy/
Extractions: by Lonnie Lee Best The goal of this page is not only to inform you of whether you are a hypocrite or not; it is to inform you of the type of hypocrite you are or are not. Perhaps you are a hypocrite. If you are, I can show you how to deal with your hypocrisy. I will present the factors that cause honest people to be hypocritical at times. I will share with you in minutes, what took me hours of objective self-evaluation to understand. This understanding has given me peace of mind, and I hope it will for you too. Maybe you are worse than a hypocrite is; I will give examples of non-hypocrites that have less integrity than certain types of hypocrites do. For these people, I will explain how their lack of integrity has given them a distorted perception of reality. Regardless, if you are searching for understanding about hypocrisy, you have come to the right place. Before I can clearly communicate my ideas to you, we must go through the painstaking process of eliminating any ambiguity that could arise from the terminology that I will be using. I have even had to coin a couple of terms myself in order to convey my ideas precisely, and concisely. I have also provided a mathematical formula and a matrix to add additional aid in precisely communicating the relationship of the terms discussed. We will start with the word hypocrite. There are a couple of meanings for this word, and it is necessary to state which one we will be using in this article.
