    Extractions: THE New Golf Psychology "New" means interactive, balanced, process oriented and dynamic. "Old" means cerebral, rational, locked in to outcome statements and static. "Old" just repeats the same cliched preliminaries, duplicates the wornout pleas for building a strong foundation, but lacks any method or process that is actionable. "New" builds a house on the foundation and puts a roof on it. Gives you a place to go, a way to get there and a place to live when you arrive. The "old" just keeps on rebuilding the foundation. It gets "all dressed up with no place to go." Wherever you look, there are claims of "New, Best, First, Most, Top, Number One," describing products, services, processes, programs, or ideas. "How is 'Best' evaluated?" If you hear the word "New," what magic determines if it really is NEW , not to mention natural enough to put health in your game? Even if there are promises or guarantees of comfort in playing, with references, historic profiles, secure footnotes from research, and quotes from highly reputable scientists, most folks will go more by what their friends and heroes say than by any evidence , no matter how substantial. It is not easy to offset the instinctive need to maintain the status quo, so if the sound you hear is unfamiliar, you may just ignore it, or reject it out of hand. There are two fundamental reasons that have formed the state of what is loosely referred to as "the mental game." One is that for generations, the disciplines of psychology and physiology have been kept apart by those who should know better. Those two bodies of knowledge have been treated as sacred portfolios, not to be corrupted by the other. The gurus of both have insisted upon it. It is impossible to integrate what is kept separate, and any claim to a New Golf Psychology must have that integration or it isn't "new." Saying something is "new" without that is false advertising.

    Extractions: APR Aristotle (384-322 BC) was born in Macedon, in what is now northern Greece, but spent most of his adult life in Athens. His life in Athens divides into two periods, first as a member of Plato's Academy (367-347) and later as director of his own school, the Lyceum (334-323). The intervening years were spent mainly in Assos and Lesbos, and briefly back in Macedon. His years away from Athens were predominantly taken up with biological research and writing. Judged on the basis of their content, Aristotle's most important psychological writings probably belong to his second residence in Athens, and so to his most mature period. His principal work in psychology, De Anima , reflects in different ways his pervasive interest in biological taxonomy and his most sophisticated physical and metaphysical theory. Because of the long tradition of exposition which has developed around Aristotle's De Anima , the interpretation of even its most central theses is sometimes disputed. Moreover, because of its evident affinities with some prominent approaches in contemporary philosophy of mind, Aristotle's psychology has received renewed interest and has incited intense interpretative dispute in recent decades. Consequently, this entry proceeds on two levels. The main article recounts the principal and distinctive claims of Aristotle's psychology, avoiding so far as possible exegetical controversy and critical commentary. At the end of appropriate sections of the main article, readers are invited to explore problematic or advanced features of Aristotle's theories by following the appropriate links.

In publications over the last few years I have argued the case for a cultural psychology and for a move away from constructivism. In this paper I attempt to outline a research programme for mathematics education which is firmly based in cultural, discursive psychology. I discuss theoretical issues, refer to some of the important literature, and present some research in aspects of the programme. (1) Traditional psychology, for all that its field of study is human behaviour, has offered little that can help to improve society. modern psychology has been incapable of making serious contributions to Third World ( sic In the process of individualizing its view of students, it (mathematics education) has lost any serious sense of the social structures and the race, gender and class relations that form these individuals. Furthermore, it is then unable to situate areas such as mathematics education in a wider, social context that includes larger programs for democratic education and a more democratic society.
