Z WATSON, Henry Clay, author, born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1831 ; died in Sacramento, California, 10 July, 1869. He removed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at an early age, adopted the profession of journalism, and was editorially connected with the "North American," the "Evening Journal," and other papers. He subsequently removed to California, and at the time of his death edited the Sacramento "Times." He was the author of several volumes of hunting adventure, besides which his publications include "Camp-Fires of the Revolution" (Philadelphia, 1851) ; "Nights in a Block-House" (1852); "Old Bell of Independence" (1852); " The Yankee Teapot" (1853); "Lives of the Presidents of the United States" (Boston, 1853); "Heroic Women of History" (Philadelphia, 1853); "The Ladies' Glee-Book" (New York, 1854) ; " The Masonic Musical Manual" (1855) ; and "Camp-Fires of Napoleon" (Philadelphia, 1856). MINERVA HENRY. - Owning and occupying one of the most beautiful rural estates of Wyandotte county, Mrs. Minerva Henry, living near Bonner Springs, in Delaware township, is actively and profitably engaged in the raising of fruit, chickens and hogs, and also in dairying, in each branch of agriculture meeting with success. She was born on a farm in Illinois, near Danville, and there was bred and educated. Her father, a Mr. Watson, was for many years engaged in agricultural pursuits in Vermilion county, Illinois, and on retiring from farming moved with his family into the city of Danville, where he was engagged in business for many years. He is now living with his daughter, Mrs. Henry, in Bonner Springs. His wife, died in 1890, leaving seven children, as follows: William, Martin H., John R., George, Thomas, Nicholas and Minerva, now Mrs. Henry. Mr. Watson is a Democrat in politics, and he and his family are members of the Methodist church. Minerva Watson Henry was but thirteen years old when her parents located in Danville, Illinois, where she completed her early education. In 1860 she was united in marriage with Ira M. Henry, who was born in Bismark, Vermilion county, Illinois, and died on their home farm, July 2, 1895. Five children were born of the union of Mr. and Mrs. Henry, namely: Martin T., the first born, now living in Danville, Illinois, married Nellie Craft; Charles W., of Kansas City, Missouri, married Minnie Elliott; Ira Earl, of Danville, Illinois; Eldon B., a student at Washington University, in St. Louis; and Eldo Carl, living with his mother on the farm, and assisting her in its management.

Extractions: WATSON, Henry, Sr. (d.), b. London, Eng., 1782; d. Guelph Tp., 1837. He m. Elizabeth Colledge. She was b. near Newcastle, Eng., 1791; d. Guelph Tp., 1832. The late Henry Watson , Sr., early went to sea, and followed it for over twenty years. He commanded a whaling vessel , and also commanded "True Love," a "Letter of Marque" vessel, and assisted in conveying the Danish fleet into the River Thames after the Battle of Trafalgar. He with his family came to Canada with considerable means in 1831, and purchased lots 5 and 6, con. 9, Guelph Tp., and here settled, building a very fine log house. They were the first family to settle on the "Nichol road," as it was afterwards called, when cut out. His wife d. the following year, and he only lived until 1837. Issue: Dr. Samuel, remained in England; Mrs. John Harland, Mrs. Edward Harland, Henry, Jr.; Capt. Edwin, Charles, James d. in Australia; Thomas, and Alfred, Sr.

Henry was educated at King's College, London, winning the first mathematical scholarship which had been set up there, then in 1846 he went to Trinity College, Cambridge, again with a scholarship. He graduated in 1850 as second wrangler and Smith's prizeman. In 1851 Watson became a fellow of Trinity College and from 1851 until 1853 he was a tutor in mathematics at Cambridge. In 1854, after he had spent a short time studying law in London, he became a mathematics master at the City of London School. While holding this position, Watson married Emily Rowe from Cambridge in 1856. They had three children, one son and two daughters. From 1857 Watson lectured at King's College, London. In 1860-61 Cambridge appointed him moderator and examiner for the Mathematical Tripos. In fact Watson has been ordained a deacon in 1856 and he took priest's orders two years later. From 1857 until 1865 he was mathematics master at Harrow School. He left in 1865, however, to become Rector of Berkswell with Barston near Coventry where he remained until he retired [2]:-
