Extractions: Impact of Callinectes sapidus on the Vertical Migration Behavior of Submerged Littoraria irrorata John Tomasheski December 3, 2001 Introduction Littoraria irrorata , the marsh periwinkle, is a light gray gastropod that populates intertidal marshes along the Atlantic shoreline of North America (Henry et. al, 1993). L. irrorata is typically found distributed on the marsh cordgrass Spartina alterniflora (Graca et. al, 2000). The cordgrass environment provides a versatile habitat where many predator and prey organisms thrive. L. irrorata is able to exist in the presence of their predators with a reduced risk of mortality by the development of a heavy shell sculpture, growing to a size above which predator success is limited, or existing in a habitat that is inaccessible to predators, typically the upper portions of S. alterniflora stems (Vaughn and Fisher, 1988). The pattern of vertical migration by a marsh periwinkle on the S. alterniflora has been extensively investigated. Bingham (1972) tested the effects of numerous environmental stimuli on marsh periwinkle migration, including salinity, food supply, substrate elevation, wave action, light, gravity, desiccation, and temperature. Henry et. al (1993) continued to study the correlations between temperature, salinity, and desiccation with the climbing behavior of L. irrorata

"A posteriori" should mean "without any a priori hypotheses", but it can easily be misunderstood as "after the omnibus F-test". Furthermore, the Scheffi S procedure is in the same category and is a genuine F-test follow-up. ======================================================================== Date: Mon, 18 Sep 1995 09:48:01 +0100 Sender: Stat-l Discussion List From: "Mr. N.W.A. Consequently most of my comments have been about people. Undoubtedly, some worthy people have been omitted and some important incidents skipped; but what follows is all that came to my mind when I was writing, except that some incidents could easily have been elaborated tiresomely much. If I had rewritten this account with the purpose of polishing the English usage, it would not only read more smoothly, but it would contain some of the possibly important omissions. Complete your research as a web page and post it to your West Virginia State College web page account. For instructions on using your West Virginia State College web account please refer to the help page at computer services. You may also want to take a look at an example procedure for using telnet and file transfer protocol or even a step by step procedure using my web guide for WVSC students. Be sure to send Professor Lewis a reference link to you page via email so that he can coordinate the student pages. I prefer that you select one of the more famous statisticians that have made substantial contributions to your selected discipline.
