Extractions: English physical anthropologist, geologist, and paleontologist best known for his work in the relative dating of fossils by fluorine content. While working for the British Natural History Museum, Oakley become famous in 1953 for exposing a forgery. A " Piltdown Man " skull had been "unearthed" in 1912, in Piltdown, England, and had for decades been said to represent the "missing link" in human evolution. Oakley developed a method , based on a French minerologist's theory that bones would gradually absorb fluorine from surrounding soil, to measure the fluorine levels in bones. With this and other tests he proved the true age of the bones to be a modern human braincase and an orangutan jawbone. The bones of the forgery had been chemically stained to appear ancient. In 1914, on a research assignment to Australia, the outbreak of WW I kept him partially confined to the Trobriand Islands, off the eastern tip of New Guinea. V roce 1895 se neúspìnì pokusil o pøijetí na Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule v Zürichu, aby zde získal diplom inenýra elektrotechniky. Albert Einstein v roce 1896 odmítl nìmecké obèanství a v roce 1899 poádal o výcarské obèanství, které mu bylo udìleno v roce 1901. Po neúspìném pokusu o studium na ETH v Zürichu Einstein navtìvoval støední kolu v Aarau. Chtìl se znovu touto cestou pokusit o studium na ETH. V Aarau napsal èlánek, ve kterém popsal své plány do budoucna. Napsal, e by chtìl studovat matematiku a fyziku a stát se uèitelem pøírodních vìd, zejména teoretické èásti, protoe má pøedpoklady pro abstraktní matematické mylení, pøedstavivost a praktické schopnosti.
