A comparison is made between the revolt of the Netherlands against the Spanish in the 16th century and that of the Americans against the English. The work appeared in 1776, the same year thirteen of the English colonies declared their independence. The dialogue is between William of Orange, the leader of the Dutch revolt against the Spanish King and the forefather of the present Dutch royal family, and general Montgommery who played an important role in the War of Independence.
