A well-rounded band Randers Big Band is a group of many talents - talents honed in an impressive range of performance situations both in Denmark and abroad. You name it, we've played at it - the band has extensive experience with performing at: festivals, festival/theme weeks, jazz luncheons, big band dances/balls, big birthday bashes, company parties, Christmas gatherings, receptions and, of course traditional big band concerts. Through the years, Randers Big Band has played at countless music festivals here at home as well as abroad, and the band has brought its swinging show on the road, too, with tours to Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland and the USA. And in addition to ordinary big band concerts, the band is wont to blow its collective horn at jazz luncheons, big birthday bashes, music festivals, dances/balls, receptions, company parties and - lest we forget, the New Years concert on January 1st , a concert rich in tradition, held each year in Værket Auditorium in Randers. Plus, the band has arranged workshops and performances with a veritable "whoÕs who" of big-name artists from Denmark and abroad.

Extractions: Figure 17. Luksch disk, made by Joseph Luksch about 1880 and used in that year aboard the HERTA, the yacht of Prince John II of Liechstenstein. It was provided with five interchangeable 36-cm reflecting plates of different metals, some painted. Afterwards, Luksch used polished white iron disks and white painted disks of 45 cm diameter on the POLA. Figure 18. Color measuring scale of Francoise-Alphonse Forel. Forel invented this scale in 1887 for the study of the color of water, and precisely for that of Lake Leman. He conducted his first experiments in Lake Leman in 1887. Figure 19. Color measuring tube of Julien Thoulet, designed about 1903 to facilitate the use of Forel's color scale. It was only a little more practical than the original form. Figure 20. Color measuring lens of Julien Thoulet designed in 1903 as per the intention of Prince Albert 1st of Monaco. Thoulet tested this instrument at the laboratory at Nancy. It is possible that this instrument was also tested on the PRINCESS ALICE II in 1905. Figure 21. Oceanographic float devised by Prince Albert of Monaco, 1887 model. These floats were used to study surface currents.
Extractions: Figure 23. Current meter invented by Jacob Amsler-Laffon about 1876. This instrument was devised to measure the currents of streams and rivers. It was an application of Woltman's electrical turnstile method of measuring the current. The first use of this instrument was in the Rhine River near Schaffhouse in 1876 . 278 measurements were made at 26 stations at 6 meters depth. Image ID: ship4026, NOAA Ship Collection

Jacob Amsler panted the tree in 1902. His son, William, operated the Nob Hill Dairy in the area. Dr. Rogers has named his clinic Liberty Beech Dental after the tree. Cherry: OLD CHERRY TREE This huge cherry tree, located in the Willamette River bottom southeast of the Independence bridge, is one of the largest in this part of the Willamette Valley. Its giant size suggests it to be at last 100 years old. Now a lone tree far from others, it harks back to the days when vast hop fields covered the flats along the Willamette River in southern Marion County. Its pioneer planter is unknown. Cottonwood: NATIONAL CHAMPION The nations largest known black cottonwood is located in Willamette Mission State Park north of Salem. This 147-foot-tall tree stands near the site of Jason Lees first Methodist Mission in the 1830s and along the course of the Willamette River prior to the flood of 1861. With a 27-foot circum-ference, the tree possible provided shade to Lee and his assistants. At present, the cottonwood is the only national champion in the state park. Access is readily available by a well-graveled trail of about 100 yards.
