Extractions: `High Energy Physics' (HEP) or `Particle Physics' searches for the fundamental particles and forces which build the world around us. Like all matter is made from atoms, all atoms are made from even smaller particles. Physicist discovered that similiar to the `Periodic System of Atoms' , there is a list of subatomic particles

Departmental Server Introduction The Queen Mary Group In the 1980's the Queen Mary Group was part of the UA1 Experiment that discovered the W and Z particles and for which the 1984 Nobel Prize was awarded. In the 1990s the Group was part of the OPAL Experiment that studied the W and Z particles in great detail and established that there are only three types of light neutrino and hence probably only six quarks and six leptons. Today the Queen Mary Group is involved in two running experiments, the BaBar Experiment and the H1 Experiment. The Group is also preparing the ATLAS Experiment and for an experiment at the Next Linear Collider.
