Daily Vault - January 10, 2000 Sean McCarthy's review But just to piss off her naysayers, Apple released an album that almost eclipses her very good Tidal album. Rated A. http://www.dailyvault.com/2000_01_10-sm.html
Extractions: Review by: Sean McCarthy Originally published: January 10, 2000 Fiona Apple's "rant" on the MTV Video Music Awards a couple of years ago was one of the most laughable, sorry and just plain ridiculous cases of overreaction to an artist who speaks their mind. I mean, come on, what really did she say when she was at the podium? Value individuality, don't pay too much attention to beauty standards that you couldn't possibly live up to, don't let artists dictate your value system. Yup, I could see where people thought she was waaaay out of line. All of those things she said were very controversial. Come on folks, it's not like she tore the picture of the pope up on the podium. But somehow, at that instant, she was cast as an outsider. Just get that second album out of the way, get that buried and Apple will go the way of the Crash Test Dummies. Actually, that senario would work if she released a weak album. But just to piss off her naysayers, Apple released an album that almost eclipses her very good Tidal album.
Eclipses Partial eclipses, annular eclipses, and the partial phases of total eclipses are never safe to watch without taking special precautions. http://users.telenet.be/nmenneke/eclips/engels/eclips_index_en.html
Extractions: Eclipse Homepage WARNING: do not attempt to observe the partial or annular phases of any solar eclipse with the naked eye. Failure to use appropriate filtration may result in permanent eye damage or blindness! The Sun can be viewed safely with the naked eye only during the few brief seconds or minutes of a total solar eclipse. Partial eclipses, annular eclipses, and the partial phases of total eclipses are never safe to watch without taking special precautions. Even when 99% of the Sun's surface is obscured during the partial phases of a total eclipse, the remaining photospheric crescent is intensely bright and cannot be viewed safely without eye protection.
Extractions: Met Loretta on this cruise, so it has to go down as both the ultimate eclipse trip and the ultimate cruise (for me). Saw this one along with my old KAS buddies off the coast of Mexico. After observing the previous two eclipses telescopically, I decided to try binoculars on this one. Here I am waiting for totality, waiting for Loretta. My first and (so far) only annular eclipse. Weather was iffy, but Loretta and I decided to give it the old college try. We drove north to Saratoga Springs and watched this one through binoculars and mylar filters. This photo of the partial phase shows the pinhole camera effect from trees shading the parking lot.

Extractions: Lunar Eclipses This collaborative programme is concerned with the observation of a Lunar Eclipse, that is when the Moon enters the Earth's shadow. During this event, less sunlight reaches the Moon and its appearance changes. During a Total Lunar Eclipse , the Moon is entirely inside the Earth's shadow; during a Partial Lunar Eclipse , only part of the Moon is inside. A Lunar Eclipse always happens at the time of full moon, when the Sun, Earth and Moon are (nearly) aligned. A Total Lunar Eclipse took place on Tuesday, September 16, 1997. A preliminary report is now available! Another Total Lunar Eclipse took place on Friday, September 27, 1996. It was visible in most areas of North and South America, Europe, Africa, Western Asia, in some places only partly. Results from the observations by Astronomy On-Line Groups of the 1996 eclipse are available! The text here does not tell you everything about lunar eclipses, but if you want to know more, we suggest that you consult the More related information is also available in the Astronomy On-Line Solar Eclipse Project and you may find it interesting to read about the ancient observations in a most fascinating science book: `Science for the Citizen' by Lancelot Hogbein (Aberdeen, Sept. 1939).

Extractions: in Mexico Strange Colours at Noon The first 10 days of the 1991 eclipse trip was an organised eclipse tour with Explorers Travel Club . It was my first visit to the Americas . It was the first eclipse trip with my future wife, Talaat Qureshi - she stayed for two months. Two friends, John Mears and John Harbour , came only for the tour part. A flight took us to to Los Angeles in the USA "Are you or have you ever been a Communist?" ) where we stayed for 3 days. We then flew south to Mexico where we saw the eclipse described below in Baja California . After the eclipse, Talaat and I travelled independently though Mexico. I continued alone to Belize and Guatemala After 7 months I returned to London from Guatemala City via Miami "Are you or have you ever been a Communist?" San Jose del Cabo is a small tourist resort on the southern tip of Baja California in Mexico. The surrounding countryside is mountainous desert covered with cacti. Some of the cacti were huge, three pronged trees, just like in cowboy films! The sun shone brightly; the sea was blue and the beaches fine. This was a perfect place for watching eclipses. The 1991 eclipse was due to be nearly seven minutes long: there would be none longer in my lifetime.
SOLAR ECLIPSES MY SOLAR eclipses. All images on this page are by Gerard M Foley. Prof. Waltmaier had been on the centerline of 28 total eclipses. http://home.columbus.rr.com/gfoley/eclipse.html
Extractions: In 1954 our family went to Copper Harbor, Michigan, on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Lake Superior. This was the easternmost point in the United States on the path of totality of that year's solar eclipse. A few minutes before totality, the clouds which had covered the eastern horizon (in the first picture below) lifted, only to be replaced by the fog you see in the next two, taken just before and just after totality. The "perfect eclipse" came in 1970, in Williamston, NC. On the left below are the dozens of optical instruments set up behind the Holiday Inn and the brilliant blue sky on the day of the eclipse. We could go into a motel room to see the eclipse in Mexico City on color television, then come out to see for ourselves. On the right are my wife and I and the 800mm. f8 lens with which I took the five frames below.
Extractions: IF YOU LOOK UP ECLIPSES in the Dictionary of Astrology by Alan Leo, it's a little like reading the Book of Revelations . They are associated with pestilences, earthquakes, toil on the king, hard times for animals, earthquakes, floods, running out of coffee on a Monday morning and everything else gone wrong. One gets the impression that eclipses are a good time to be away from the Solar System. In actual fact, decent astrologers all learn respect for eclipses. Some learn it the easy way, some learn it the hard way, but upon commencing the study of astrology, eclipses soon reveal their power. We learn to respect them like small children who grow up by the ocean are taught to respect waves and water. Swallow a few good gulps of salt or get knocked into an undertow and the sea becomes a god one treats tentatively. To my thinking, astrology is as basic as a sea captain or navigator learning the respect for weather, tides and magnetic forces that guides a safe passage. Few people would argue with a hurricane. Eclipses are natural events with natural results, and, as it happens, we are moving through their neighbourhood right at the moment.
The Nazca Lines And The "Eye In The Sky" - An Eclipse Theory Evidence suggesting that the Nazca Lines and geoglyphs were an ancient Peruvian religious response to the socalled Eye of God that is manifested during total solar eclipses. http://nazcalines.homestead.com/
Extractions: The TOTAL The Science AND ... Pedigree of the Phoenix The Nazca Lines that is clearly manifested in the heavens above our planet during total solar eclipses. A genuinely unusual series of total solar eclipses coincided with the time period during which the Nazca Lines were created. Some of the Nazca Lines geoglyphs would appear to depict avatars of the Nazca culture's sky gods. Some of the bird geoglyphs are clearly aligned with the winter solstice sunset or they are connected to, or closely associated with, Nazca Lines pointing to the winter solstice sunset. This is not surprising when one understands that a quite remarkable bird-like pattern that is manifested in the sun's corona during some total solar eclipses gave rise to the mythical phoenix Egyptian winged sun symbol and solar falcon god Horus An alchemical wood-cut illustration displays a Latin motto - which means - This Is The Way Of God A modern medical artist's anatomical drawing of a human eye This Nazca hummingbird aka colibri geoglyph is, like most of the other bird geoglyphs, associated with the winter solstice sunset alignment. . . As Above - So Below A human figure Nazca geoglyph hintingly points up to the sky and down to the Earth. . .

Railroad Tycoon II Review For PC At GameSpot By Samuel Brown Baker, 9.1/10. A sequel that eclipses the original in nearly all aspects. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/railroadtycoon2/review.html
Extractions: In an industry now thriving on "me too" games, it defies belief that there have been so few previous entries in the "build and manage" genre started by the original Railroad Tycoon. At least half of these have come from Maxis. Railroad Tycoon II by PopTop Software puts you in charge of a vast railroad empire in the persona of one of the legendary tycoons or government figures of the day. The train and station limits from Railroad Tycoon are gone. You can build stations and buy trains to your heart's content without bumping into an artificial limit. To the best of my knowledge, no one has exceeded the train/station limit, if there is one, relieving one of the most frustrating features of the original Railroad Tycoon when playing on large maps.
