    Extractions: There were many years of monitoring weather patterns, sugar levels and different grape varietals that could be suitable to the area. The advise was that the classic German varietals would be best suited to the cooler temperatures. Being an avid drinker of the wines of Burgundy, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were planted. 'The experts' north of theBombay Hills said that Pinot would not sell as it was seen to be a light red wine. This was no deterrent to his foresight and now Pinot Noir is 40% of the vineyard plantings. The bulk of the vineyard was planted by1981 with further plantings in 1995.

    Extractions: In 1965 George W. Naumburg, Jr., M.D. and his wife Michelle planted their first vines. Although grapes were new to him, George, grew up on a farm in Northern Westchester. That experience plus his knowledge of chemistry and bacteriology gave him a good start on managing a vineyard and making wine. After growing 36 varieties of wine grapes to learn which could grow well and yield the best wine at this site, all but Seyval Blanc, Foch, de Chaunac and Chancellor were removed in 1979 when North Salem Vineyards became a commercial operation. The winery had been a modern Dairy Barn quite unlike the more traditional dairy barns in the region. We re-built it in 1983 to provide a more dramatic, modern tasting room with space for indoor events. The remainder of the building holds stainless steel tanks, winemaking equipment, a laboratory, workspace for bottling and labeling and a temperature controlled room in which to store bottled wine.

    Extractions: This is the Home Page for Horton Estate Vineyard - Dorset's largest vineyard. Unlike many English vineyards, it has its own purpose-built modern winery. All our wines are well balanced and full of flavour because of our careful winemaking and minimal additives. Our single bottle prices are about 10% below similar quality wines from a supermarket, with the case prices even better value. The word Estate is reserved in European Wine Law for wineries that grow their own grapes and make wine only from those grapes. It is not a guarantee of quality, but many of the world's best wines are produced from these vineyards (called Domaines in France, Weinguts in Germany, etc).
