Extractions: Heathen was one of several 80's thrash bands comprising the Bay Area thrash scene of the mid-to-late 80's, along with bands such as Exodus Vio-lence Death Angel , and Forbidden , among others. Guitarist Doug Piercy was a founding member of Anvil Chorus, a very popular early 80's metal band that inexplicably never got signed. Heathen's sound was typical for the time and place (that being energetic thrash), garnering good reviews and a steady following but not making it to the first division. The band had numerous ties to other San Francisco bands, as James Sanguinetti ( Mordred ) was a founding member (replaced by Piercy), Paul Baloff ( Exodus ) briefly replaced David Godfrey on vocals between albums, and Marc Biedermann ( Blind Illusion ) played bass on their second album. Several years after the initial breakup of the band, guitarist Lee Altus and drummer Darren Minter were seen in the German electronic band Die Krupps, with Altus sticking around for several albums in the mid-90's.

Something can be learned about people from the names they chose for their children. Very frequently the meaning is given as 'prefix' + 'suffix'. This I do instead of repeating the meaning of every affix every time it occurs. This saved me much work and I hope it will not make the collection unreadable.

Was wohl daran liegt, dass der Mann - trotz dem ewigen Vorwurf, nur Beatles-Plagiate zu schreiben - einen ganz eigenen Stil hat. Und der erinnert einen beim Hören neuer Songs immer an ihn selbst. So kam es, dass ich bei "Force Of Nature", das mit einem Iggy Pop-Beat einsteigt, alle alten Oasis-Platten durchhörte um den Song zu finden, der sich genau so anhört. Den gab es aber gar nicht.

Anzusiedeln wäre solche Musik ganz deutlich in den 70er Jahren, wenn man denn eine Schublade öffnen wollte. In diese Zeit fallen einige von Bowies größten Erfolgen, besonders die Kunstfigur Ziggy Stardust ist auch heute noch den meisten ein Begriff. Damals hatten Bowie-Songs oft reichlich Pathos; dass es auch mal nerven kann, wenn sich der Sänger mit quengelnder Stimme Emotionen abquetscht, ruft "Slip Away" in ungute Erinnerung.

The virus is spread from system to system with infected Word documents. The binary part that is activated during each Windows startup is used to infect other Word documents on the first logical disk even if Word is not opened. Due to its peculiarities the virus replicates only under Windows 95. VARIANT: Heathen.12288.A The virus has 3 different essences: an AutoOpen macro and UUE-like encoded binary inside Word documents, a Windows PE executable and a Word template that is used by a binary part for replication. As stated above the EXPLORER.EXE is not infected but only patched by the virus. The virus puts 32 bytes of its startup code and data (file name) to the beginning of the last section of EXPLORER.EXE and redirects Entry Point RVA to that location. Being run the EXPLORER.EXE will launch HEATHEN.VDL file using LoadLibraryA function. Since then the virus will be active in memory. When the virus is active, it looks for files having '.dot' or '.doc' extensions on the first logical hard disk (C:). If a file is found the virus attempts to infect it using OLE API - the new technique that allows the virus not to use Word for infection purposes.

The trip there was long, the trip back even longer, but it was all worth it to see the expression on my mother's face when I walked in the door and she realized it was me. Before the surprise, though, there was sweat. Sunday morning, I ran my second and last, for a while, because it's getting hot out here and I'm a wimp 10K run, the Nike Run Hit Wonder, which featured 1980s bands along the route playing music for the racers. Tommy Tutone struck up "Jenny" right as I passed the stage, and Flock of Seagulls was aptly singing "I Ran" the second time my path crossed its corner. Tone Loc was there, too, and the whole thing finished in the L.A. Coliseum with a Devo concert. About 20,000 runners showed up to compete, and it was a pretty amazing experience to run through the tunnel and come up on the field, sun shining, fellow racers cheering; somehow it all came together and pushed my legs harder and harder toward a personal record. I shaved about five minutes off my time, finishing the race in 58:52, an average of a 9:28 mile. The whole thing had me so proud, I was glowing, although that might have been the shimmer from the sheer quantity of sweat oozing down my face. Others might shrug off that distance as a pittance, and in some senses it is, but I am as proud as if I ran a marathon. It's amazing what you can push your body to do. Granted, this is a tiny thing in the scheme of athletic and physical feats, but it's not inconsequential for me. I've always struggled to run a mile, much less two, so the day I ran three with stops for traffic lights, of course was one of my proudest. Now, suddenly, and I don't quite know how I made it happen, I can run 6.2 miles and I have a hankering to see, slowly, how far I can push myself.
