Index Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Every Disciples congregation is autonomous and voluntarily associates with other congregations at a Regional level. Our region includes Washington, North Idaho and Alaska with a total of 71 congregations. In addition to being part of a region, Findlay is also a member of a denomination called Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Because it includes the United States and Canada, this manifestation is known as the General level. There is a General Assembly every two years where thousands of Disciples gather for learning and inspiration. Our denomination is currently living into a partnership with another denomination, the United Church of Christ. We share ministry and ministers in various places. You might say the Disciples were born in a log cabin. In Kentucky at a place called Cane Ridge. Or in Pennsylvania in a little church at Brush Run at the beginning of the 19 th century. These two groups shook hands in 1832 and became a movement to unify Christians who were divided over the sectarian ways that developed in Europe. Spreading from Western Pennsylvania and northern Kentucky, moving as the frontier developed westward, the churchs strength remains concentrated in the eight state arc that runs from Ohio and Kentucky through the Middle West and down into the Oklahoma and Texas. Disciples remain a strong presence in ecumenical circles.

Stone ended his Presbyterian ties in 1804 to become a "Christian Only." Thomas Campbell and his son Alexander, Scotch Presbyterians, founded the Brush Run Church in 1811, seeking union of all Christians based on simple New Testament basics. Their followers shook hands and merged in 1832 at Lexington, Kentucky. Disciples were founded on the belief that God is revealed to all of humanity through the words of the Bible and through the ongoing revelation of the Holy Spirit. Disciples affirm that Jesus is the Christ, son of the Living God, and offers grace to all; All persons are God's children.
