Extractions: Over the centuries, pirates have been portrayed as both admirable rogues and bloodthirsty devils. This site is about the reality, myth, and romance of those adventurous souls mainly from the Golden Age of Piracy. Which refers to a time around the late 17th to early 18th centuries. It contains information regarding pirate facts and fiction, with biographies of some of the most famous pirates from this era. You will also find pages devoted to piracy in general, pirate ships, pirate images and artworks, pirate flags, pirate weapons and nautical treasure. There is a movie list for swashbuckler fans, and even a dictionary of nautical terms for all ye scurvy landlubbers as well. The Ports O'Call area is a list of links to most of my favorite seafarin' and pirate related websites. Many of these sites were used as sources of information and inspiration on the subject. Lately I have received many e-mail requests from buggers looking to buy various pirate items. So at the bottom of Ports O'Call there is a new section of links to websites that sell pirate and nautical plunder. Buyer beware.. I have not personally dealt with all of these smugglers sites and have no control over their bloody business practices. There is also a page included about sea shanties. These were the work songs used on many of the large sailing ships in the 18th and 19th centuries. Although the majority of these were used after the Golden Age of Piracy, some are based on songs of that time period. They have been added to give you a sense of life aboard a tall sailing vessel. Check back here often as I will be building on and update this site frequently. In the meantime gather round a keg of rum and enjoy your stay.. but you better keep a weather eye open.. for there be treacherous waters ahead.. watch your step around here matey.. least ye meet yer doom.

Alexander Mack led one group from Schwarzenau where they had organized in 1708, to a small village in northeastern Holland called Surhuisterveen around 1720. John Naas and Peter Becker moved another group of peace desiring Brethren from the expansion project in Marienborn to the city of Krefeld in 1715. This haven for Mennonites was an industrial textile city along the Rhine River under the temporary jurisdiction of the King of Prussia. In 1729, Mack transported his Anabaptist Pietist refugees to Pennsylvania where the guarantee of religious expression seemed certain at last. William Penn was promising economic freedom and cheap land in order to build his dream of a Christian state. Embarking from Rotterdam on the ship Allen , his party would arrive in Philadelphia harbor on September 11, 1729. Preceding him by ten years, however, was the first Brethren group of about twenty families who arrived in 1719 from Krefeld, Germany, under the leadership of Peter Becker. The new arrivals settled in a northwest suburb of Philadelphia called Germantown, most probably because of it's kindred ethnic culture. It was previously established in the 1680's by Mennonites who also came from Krefeld. The congregation at Germantown would serve as a missionary base for the Brethren who spread their gospel of radical transformation to surrounding territories. Walter Goltz, in cooperation with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, conducted a detailed survey of pastors and their spouses in 21 denominations across Canada. Questionnaires were sent to 181 of the 335 Mennonite Brethren pastor households; 66 pastors (64 of them male) and 58 spouses (57 of them female) responded. The results were expected in some cases, surprising in others. On the whole, Mennonite Brethren pastors, their challenges and their ministries are similar to their counterparts in other evangelical denominations. However, there are also some significant differences. With the permission of Lyle E. Larson, J. Walter Goltz and the EFC, we present the following summary of the MB results. The average Mennonite Brethren pastor is 46 years old (slightly higher than the evangelical average) and has about 15 years of pastoral experience in three pastorates. Ninety-seven percent of MB pastors are married (for an average of 22 years), and 88% have children (an average of 3.3 children). These MB pastors and their spouses come from stable homes. Only 1.5% of MB pastors and 3.4% of spouses come from families in which there was a divorce or separation. Eighty-two percent of MB pastors described their relationship with their fathers and mothers as accepting or supportive (another 3% said their relationship with their fathers was fantastic; 11% said their relationship with their mothers was fantastic.)

Extractions: The Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren is a Christian church containing traditions of Czech and European reformation, founded in 1918 by the connection of two protestant currents: the Lutheran and the Calvin one. It is a church based on testimony of the Bible, first of all on the gospel. Though some of its traditions go back up to the 15th century, it tries to be a modern church dealing with up-to-date worlds problems. Its organization is formed by principles of democracy. Since its foundation in 1930 until the summer 2001, the congregational house hadnt been reconstructed and so its facade remained the same. Original colors couldnt been recognized any longer, the house became one of gray buildings in a gray street for many years. Just a copper chalice with the Bible at the front wall announced the difference from other houses but even this was damaged and hard to be noticed. There was a need for reconstruction for a long time, but first for inside rooms and for the roof of the assembly hall. Nowadays the facade is brand new with new front doors and with reconstructed chalice above them. In the opposite of the original look, remained on photographs, the new surface has changed both colors and a few of important details. It is not the end of itself. The author of the design, Ondøej Smolík, an architecture student, says:
