Extractions: Helpful Books on the Charismatic Movement REASON 16 THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT WILL BE INSTRUMENTAL IN PRODUCING THE PROPHESIED WORLD ECUMENICAL CHURCH OF THE LAST DAYS Strictly speaking, this was not a reason why I left the Tongues Movement, but it is a reason why I am not, and would not, be in the Movement today. I see signs of great danger ahead. Some other Christians share the same concern with me. I wish that I were wrong, but all signs at the present indicate that the Charismatic Movement could be the common denominator for a worldwide ecumenical organization or church. In the past, all attempts to bring about ecumenicity on the basis of faith, belief, or doctrine, have failed. But in the Charismatic Movement, unity is attained, not by unanimity of doctrine but on the basis of a common religious experience. To them largely, doctrine is not the important thing. But the experience is. So it is not surprising that in Charismatic circles people of many denominational backgrounds and doctrines can all worship and fellowship together, not because they agree on doctrine but because they agree on a common religious experience.

Extractions: by Jean E. Goertz This church, affiliated with the Apostolic Church of Pentecost of Canada (A.C.O.P) with headquarters in Saskatoon, is one of the youngest of all churches in Estevan. In the spring of 1965, the South-East Saskatchewan Presbyter District of A.C.O.P passed a motion to re-establish the work in Estevan in answer to requests received from families in the area of Apostolic persuasion. Presbyter Rev. A.E. Sheppard of Regina, Rev. D.W. Breen of Moose Jaw, and Rev.R.A. Larden, Canadian Field Representative, were active on a committee to work out the details. Rev. Larden took up temporary residence in the city in August of 1965 to carry out the pastoral duties and give oversight on the program on construction. Regular services were held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Goertz until other acommodations could be found. At this time the former Alliance Church on Fourth Street was put up for tender by the Co-op to make way for their new to-be-expanded retail store. A bid was submitted by the congregation and the building was purchased. Three lots were also purchased on King Street and a full basement measuring 31 by 85 feet was constructed by Jake Baerg Construction Co. The building was moved to this location in two sections by Len Gustafson of Macoun. After some reconstruction and renovation, the building was ready for occupancy with the first church service being held on December26, 1965, with Rev. Larden in charge. That same year, a house was also purchased from the Co-op and moved to Third Street to a lot adjacent to the church, to serve as a manse. It was also moved by L. Gustafson.

James Mckeown was born on September 12 th , 1900, at Ballymena in Scotland to his Irish parents, William John Mckeown and Elizabeth Thompson. He was brought up in a Christian home. He knew his Bible and even liked the idea of becoming a minister when he grew up. At the age of nineteen, he became converted through the ministry of Rev. Robert Mercer. Rev. George Jeffreys of the Elim Four Square Gospel Alliance in Ballymena, baptized James and Sophia, who later became his wife. He received his Holy Spirit baptism later. Rev James Mckeown left school at the age of eleven. Sophia however, got educated to the advanced age of nineteen and studied dressmaking for two years becoming a fully qualified seamstress. Rev. James assisted his father on the farm and later became a tram driver, when an inspector on Glasgows tram put James name forward. He got married to Sophia Kennock, in 1927. Sophia was attracted to James because of his praying habit. She said, she never heard anyone prayer like that before.
