LSE for you You are here - Welcome to LSE Operational Research Study Masters programmes The MSc in Operational Research combines a basic grounding in the techniques and methods of OR with the opportunity to take the study of particular topics, such as mathematical programming, computer simulation and problem structuring methods. . The course is of twelve months duration. Students study six topics, three of which are normally compulsory. The compulsory topics cover introductions to the main mathematical and computer-based techniques of OR; to the problems of applying them in practice; and to other related subjects (Accounting, Information Systems, Economics, Strategic Management). The remaining topics are selected by students from an extensive list of options, including both specialist OR subjects and a selection of relevant offerings by other departments at LSE. Over the summer period at the end of the course, students undertake practical projects, normally in an outside organisation.
