Wagstaff - Samuel S. Wagstaff, Jr. Professor Wagstaff obtained his Ph.D. in mathematics at Cornell University in 1970. He has worked in Computational number theory ever since then. In 1983, he joined the faculty of the Department of Computer Sciences at Purdue University. http://www.cerias.purdue.edu/coast/precis/node16.html
Number Theory At The University Of Vienna number theory. There is a further number theory group led by Werner Georg Nowak which is located at the University of Agricultural Sciences at Vienna. http://www.mat.univie.ac.at/Groups/Schoissengeier.html
Extractions: The following faculty members are actively engaged in this field of mathematics: Christoph Baxa's research interests are uniform distribution, continued fractions and Diophantine approximation. He also takes an active interest in connections of number theory to symbolic logic, particularly in Hilbert's 10th problem.
Number Theory Foundation Aims to collect donations from supporters of number theory and to disburse these donations to encourage research. http://www.math.uiuc.edu/ntf/
Extractions: Selected Past Grants Application Procedure The Number Theory Foundation (NTF) is an organization whose aim is to collect donations from supporters of number theory and to disburse these donations to encourage research, purchase computing equipment connected with research, help sponsor appropriate conferences, and work to foster a spirit of cooperation and goodwill among the family of number theorists. The NTF does not seek to be the sole sponsor of projects, but rather to share in their support. Contributors of substantial donations to the NTF have the opportunity to decide which area or areas of number theory they wish to support and to specify how the support should be made: individuals, computational projects, conferences, or all of these. Right now our supporters have directed available funds toward activities in computational and combinatorial number theory, and also toward general number theory conferences. Some examples of recent grants are listed in Selected Past Grants The NTF is at present a very small foundation and does not have the resources to singlehandly underwrite costly undertakings. We hope that grants from us can be used to help leverage support from other sources. The NTF prefers that its conference grants be used for junior attendees who do not have other support, and that the grants be applied for and administered by the conference itself, not by individual participants.
Number Theory More detailed description on the research in number theory. The recent research works of Assoc.prof Keijo Väänänen and Doc. number theory Web. http://cc.oulu.fi/~mathdept/numbt.htm
Extractions: The recent research works of Assoc.prof Keijo Väänänen and Doc. Tapani Matala-aho consider mainly diophantine approximation properties of hypergeometric-, q-hypergeometric- and theta series. By using Siegel's method and Padé approximations irrationality and linear independence results have been enlarged and improved both in the archimedian and p-adic metrics. In a joint work of Bundschuh (Köln, Germany) and Väänänen the ideas from Siegel's method were combined with Padé approximations of certain infinitive products to obtain some interesting linear independence results with good measures. These investigations are planned to continue.

FUNDAMENTAL NUMBER THEORY WITH APPLICATIONS FUNDAMENTAL number theory WITH APPLICATIONS. Richard A. Mollin. If you want to give an introductory number theory course at any level, then this text is for you. http://www.math.ucalgary.ca/~ramollin/fnt2.html
Extractions: If you want to give an introductory number theory course at any level, then this text is for you. The applications to computer science, especially cryptography, are rich and extensive, ranging from computer arithmetic to an elementary presentation of the elliptic curve factoring method. There are also optional applications to algebraic number theory. A human touch is given by the more than 70 biographies of mathematicians, which are woven through the text as footnotes. The text is exercise-rich, with over 740 problems, ranging from the routine to the more difficult star problems, and all odd numbered exercises are solved in detail at the end of the text. To aid the instructor who adopts the text for a course, a solutions manual for the even numbered exercises is available free of charge. There are over 270 examples illustrating and motivating all topics covered, as well as 9 appendices chock-full of information ranging from set theory to Cunningham factorizations, and new records. The index has over one thousand entries to ensure maximum ease in extracting information. Ron Evans, who is using the text in a course at UCSD, has commented: "Both the student and the instructor alike will be impressed with the quality, variety and number of stimulating exercises.
INI Programme ERN Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge; 5 January to 7 July 2000. http://www.newton.cam.ac.uk/programs/old_progs/ERN/ern.html
Extractions: Mailing List 5 January to 7 July 2000 Organisers : A Katok ( Penn State ), G Margulis ( Yale ), M Pollicott ( Manchester Programme theme The central scientific theme of this programme is the recent development of applications of ergodic theory to other areas of mathematics. In particular, the connections with geometry, group actions and rigidity, and number theory. The potential of ergodic theory as a tool in number theory was revealed by Furstenberg's proof of Szemerdi's theorem on arithmetic progressions. Foremost amongst the recent contributions to number theory is the solution of the Oppenheim Conjecture, a problem on quadratic forms which had been open since 1929, and the Baker-Spindzuk conjectures in the metric theory of diophantine approximations. Of equal importance is the role of ergodic theory in geometry and the rigidity of actions. The seminal result in this direction is the Mostow rigidity theorm. In recent years there have been diverse results, including rigidity results for higher rank abelian groups, and results on the classification of geodesic flows on manifolds of non-positive curvature.
