This is necessary according to the Indian Constitution. Sonia is said to have decided not to take the risk of rejection of her nomination for the Prime Minister's post after the Presidents briefing. It should also be noted that the President, in his letter on Monday, invited her only to discuss assuming the post of Prime Minister, and not to assume office. The Presidents office has denied that such discussion took place. Such denial is necessary to uphold the decorum of the President's office and prevent the President from being dragged into controversy. The very fact that a denial had to be issued, sustains the theory that something notable took place at the meeting.
