    Extractions: This multimedia collection contains descriptions of some of the 10,000 scientific research projects that have used the resources of National Science Foundation supercomputing centers. The reports range from astronomy to zoology, and include scientific breakthroughs on black holes, how the heart works, pollution control, and modelling the oceans. All reports have images, and many also are accompanied by animations and sound. You can find reports in two ways: By browsing through an entire field of science, such as physics or chemistry, chosen from a list of fields click here or click the BROWSE button on any screen). By searching for a list of relevant reports using keywords for subject, researcher or title ( click here or click the SEARCH button on any screen). Browsing will bring you all the reports in a subject area. Searching will retrieve fewer reports on more specific subjects. The results of the micro-benchmarks and kernel benchmarks show the architecture of the Cray X1 to be exceptionally fast for most operations. The best results are shown on large problems, where it is not possible to fit the entire problem into the cache of the processors. These large problems are exactly the types of problems that are important for the DOE and ultra-scale simulation.

The Scientific Computing and Visualization (SCV) group within the Office of Information Technology at Boston University provides specialized computing and communication resources geared towards research and education in computational science and engineering, scientific visualization, computer graphics and other disciplines which have high-performance computing requirements.
