This month "City Lights News" suggests a week-end itinerary to discover some of the most picturesque areas of Milan while wandering around the city's street markets. Milan offers a wide choice of alternatives. If you are an enthusiast of antiques, the right place for you is Brera Antique Open Air Market (Mercatino dell'Antiquariato di Brera) held every third Sunday of each month in Brera, one of the fanciest and most elegant neighbourhoods of Milan (Via Fiori Chiari; take the subway, yellow line, to Montenapoleone). Walking around old alleys, framed by beautiful buildings, just one block from Brera Art Gallery, you can buy China pieces, British silverware and furniture, lovely Italian objects designed in the Twenties, Thirties, Forties and Fifties, lamps and prints, antique and signed costume jewelry. Once you have done with your shopping, you can enjoy these warm Spring days in one of the numerous outdoor restaurants, ice-cream parlours and cafes located around the market area.

This month, the work of the international masters of photography have been gathered in Milan making our city the meeting point of images coming from all over the world. Museums and private galleries propose several interesting photo shows from reportage to portrait. We have selected the following: Hollywood and the myth of Marilyn : Until September 1st, Palazzo Reale will host "A Night with Marilyn", an exhibition of 73 photos taken by Douglas Kirkland in 1961, just nine months before the diva's tragic and mysterious death. The pictures, depicting the actress - already a legend in Kennedy's America - wrapped in silk sheets and in a soft-golden light, were published in the 25th anniversary issue of Look Magazine. The show's itinerary is divided into two parts: the first one shows big colour portraits of Marilyn while the other is more focused on back stage, black and white images.

What a joy it was for me to discover this CD as I searched the web! Preservation is a common theme in the High Country. Grandfather Mountain hosts a 3,500-acre preserve, recognized by the U.N. as an International Biosphere Reserve. Pottery, weaving, quilting and other crafts are preserved at places such as Penland School of Crafts. Mountain music is preserved in events such as An Appalachian Summer Festival and MerleFest.

»»Etudes Music Reviews«« overview of ALL the Etudes recordings of the century, the compelling first choice went to that of relatively little known CubanAmerican pianist juana zayas. http://www.megamusicreviews.com/Classical/Forms_and_Genres/Etudes/
Extractions: Buy one from zShops for: Artist: Fryderyk Chopin and Andrei Gavrilov Tracks: Average review score: Fantastic! This rendition of Chopin's Etudes is surely one of the best i've ever listened to. Andrei Gravilov has an extraodinary technique and every Etude is perfomed not only perfectly but with so much passion and fire to astonish the listener. At the moment i own nine sets of these beautiful pieces and this one along with Boris Berezovsky and Juana Zayas is the best in my opinion. All the others (Pollini, Peraya, Ashkenazy, Chiu, Cziffra, Cherkassky)are really notable and very different. I love all of them though Berezosky, Gravilov and Zayas stand a part for the passion overall, the lyricism and beyond-descripion technique displayed.

Extractions: Back to alumni profiles Three More Gradutates Ordained Three graduates were ordained as priests on June 30: Fr. Joseph O'Hara, Fr. Donald Bauer, and Fr. Robert Fromageot. Frs. O'Hara and Bauer were ordained in the Diocese of La Crosse, Wisconsin, while Fr. Fromageot was ordained a member of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. Frs. O'Hara and Bauer bear remarkably similar stories: both were Wisconsin natives, both were engineering school graduates, both were start-over freshmen at Thomas Aquinas College, both tested their vocations in a religious order, both were seminarians under Bishop Raymond Burke, and both are associate pastors in central rural Wisconsin. And yet, even then, and even though they graduated from Thomas Aquinas College on the same day, and were ordained as priests nine years later on the same day, their stories still are unique. Fr. Joseph O'Hara
