Extractions: To: PianoWomenEditor@aol.com By chance I read the biography of Brigitte Engerer . There seem to be some errors. Ms. Engerer did not win the first prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 1978 (Belgium). She received the third prize. The first prize was Abdel Rahman El-Bacha. I was present at the final evening when prizes were given. Also, I do not remember her winning the first prize in the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Perhaps these were unintentional mistakes by the person who prepared the biography. Best regards. Editorial note: The biography Mr. Yuksel is referring to is published at http://www.transartuk.com/engerer/, the site we linked to her name. It is currently not available so we changed it to a biography page at http://www.artsmg.com/be.html, though this seems to have the same (mis)information. Festival de.version 14th Chopin Festival (20-23 August 1998) AN UPLIFTING FESTIVAL OF MUSIC ORGANISED BY THE VIENNA INTERNATIONAL CHOPIN SOCIETY IN THE GAMING CHARTERHOUSE May the borrowed phase "Affabre Cincinui" (ideal resonance), which is the name of a group of singers that will be mentioned later, stand over the 14th Chopin Festival (20-23 August 1998). The charm of the Lower Austrian landscape and the perfectly restored Charterhouse create an ideal environment for edifying resonance of all kinds. As a city person, greeted by many friendly inhabitants of Gaming, one feels motivated to respond in the same manner and to cast off the city armour. In the church of the Charterhouse the internationally renowned pianist, Ingeborg Baldaszti, played Chopin's piano concerto No.2 accompanied by the Nieder-österreichische Tonkünstlerorchester (Lower Austrian Musicians' Orchestra) conducted by Tadeusz Strugala. The orchestra introduction flourished "on the wings of song" and the piano assisted with impressive virtuoso passages. The second movement belongs surely to the most wonderful musical inspirations in which the pianist, playing from her heart, was able to give an unusually mature performance which fascinated and moved the music lovers. Ingeborg Baldaszti performed the effective final movement with immense technical ability.
