But the two Russian composers who were to learn Tchaikovsky's lessons best, and who were to add their own brilliant manifestos to the provocative genre, both built their reputations outside of their native land. Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Prokofiev made their marks as collaborators for the dance while working in Western Europe with the great Diaghilev, his Ballet russes , and the master choreographers and scenic designers in that legendary entourage.

Extractions: Prokofiev Repertoire Flyers and ... Contact Research Instructing young children can be the most challenging part of a piano teacher's job. Most teachers find it enough of a challenge to explain things in simple-enough terms for the student to understand, and a hyper student with a low attention span never makes things any easier. However, these are problems which are obvious to any teacher, and, ironically, these problems may not affect the performance of a student as much as a less-obvious factor: practice routine and efficiency. This problem is difficult to recognize as being the primary problem; instead of going to the root of the problem by correcting practicing techniques (which can correct the resulting problem in the process), teachers may spend valuable time every lesson correcting mistakes caused by bad practicing or reinforcing something that could have been learned with efficient practicing. This may cause confusion between the teacher and student, because if a student's practicing is inefficient enough, even fifteen or more minutes of practicing each day could result in only minimal improvement. Practicing is much more than just sitting down and blindly playing through everything two or three times each day. Sidney J. Lawrence speaks of an imaginary girl named "Lisa" who represents the stereotypical young beginner, and traces her life of piano lessons year-by-year. Concerning Lisa's practicing, Lawrence writes:

Extractions: Follow Ups Post Followup Piano.com 2002 Messageboard Posted by Scott F. on October 31, 2003 at 21:39:08: Hi, I'm new to this message board, and I wanted to ask if anyone has been following pianist Chad Twedt (listed in the classical pianists section of piano.com)? Up until now, he has been a strict classical pianist. Now he is actually both classical and new age. At first this shocked me and disappointed me... But I just bought his new CD off of his web site (www.twedt.com) called Ostinato, and I must say it is one of the best CDs I have ever heard, POSSIBLY THE BEST. I never thought new age (gag) music could be presented with such intelligence, fire and creativity! I honestly think Twedt is one of today's greatest genius composers, and I'm drooling in hopes that he'll write more. From someone with a 400+ classical CD collection, I highly recommend checking this CD out! Scott F.
