He is a remarkably versatile musician, accomplished in disciplines of performance and both composition for concert and for television. He is also a talented jazz musician. After receiving a degree in music, he moved to Toronto to pursue studies in composition with the late Juno award winning composer Srul Irving Glick . This was the beginning of a six year comprehensive exploration into advanced compositional techniques and theory, which was complemented with advanced piano studies with concert pianist, Gloria Saarinen. Such intensive studies are reflected in Minthorn's work today, as the late composer Srul Irving Glick called Timothy a "pianist of considerable ability", predicting that he "has the talent to make an important contribution to Canadian music".
