Since then Andrew has recorded some sideman dates including a session for Reggie Workman that saw him working with former Blue Note labelmate Sam Rivers. 1995 saw the release of a box set of Andrew's Blue Note albums which has hopefully re-vitalised interest in his recordings. Andrews is widely considered as a most important jazz pianist and composer. Contributions, corrections and any suggestions are welcome. DISCOGRAPHY/SESSIONOGRAPHY

There are some characteristic harmonic touches but ultimately the ideas are wanting in distinction and freshness... We are no longer taking names for the petition, but you can still call or write your senator and tell him or her to vote against the Brownback-Landrieu bill, S. 1899, which would make therapeutic cloning a crime punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison. Information on how to contact your senator is here . Background information on the issue is here Therapeutic Cloning Should NOT Be Banned We the undersigned recognize that the cloning of cells offers scientists the chance to advance medical research and perhaps one day treat devastating illnesses such as juvenile diabetes, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's by replacing lost or debilitated cells. Congress should not outlaw this research despite recent pressure from various political factions. Nor should Congress impose a moratorium on this research, which would have the effect of halting the advances that are currently being made. We the undersignedmany of us conservatives, some of us scientists, all of us concerned for the futurewant it known that "therapeutic cloning" has supporters from across the political spectrum. To halt this research would be a terrible blow to science and public health.
This Is Your Time - CMusicWeb.com titled Anna , deal with the mixed feelings smith has watching sounds like a playoff of Kirk franklin s Lean On Me. Cowritten with dan Haseltine, Reach http://cmusicweb.com/pop/michaelwsmith/thisisyourtime.shtml
Extractions: Inspired by the tragedy of the Columbine High School shooting and the memory of Cassie Bernall , Christian pop recording artist Michael W. Smith sat down with other major names in the Christian music industry and began writing songs. His efforts resulted in this newest project, This Is Your Time . Working with artists such as Cindy Morgan Wes King Dan Haseltine Jars of Clay Ginny Owens , and Chris Rice , this latest album contains some of Smith's best work yet. Other Christian artists singing back-up vocals include John Elefante Angela Cruz Natalie Grant Nik Kershaw Darwin Hobbs , and Chris Rodriguez . The album is chock full of Smitty's own early 90s style, with a few noticeable differences. One such difference is that one of Michael's co-writers is his own wife, Deborah D. Smith Kirk Franklin 's "Lean On Me." Co-written with Dan Haseltine, "Reach Out to Me" is about the increasing intensity of the spiritual battle between good and evil and is a desperate plea to God to hold on to us. Dan's writing style is apparent throughout the song lyrics, "Another scar from fighting the truth now / has left me like a stranger to my need now / a masquerade, a game to figure out now / a cruel charade I cannot scream aloud." Perhaps a song that belongs in its own musical category is "I Still Have the Dream", which is a based on Jeremiah 29:11, "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.'" Extractions: Jazz Scene 091703 By Don Henke Friday night there was some sensational music at the Jazz Room at Pacchia. Ron Jones, the consummate alto saxophonist from Louisville, teamed with the flying fingers of guitarist Dan Faehnle to bring oohs and ahs from those who were listening. This was the first time the two had worked together but you'd never know it. The joy of jazz music is that perfect strangers can get together and jam and make magic. That's what happened here. Jones' bassist, the underrated Sonny Stephens, and the great drummer Art Gore kept things moving behind them. Saturday night the Kent Burnside Quartet, featuring saxophonist Brent Gallaher, played to a small crowd at Zola, the restaurant in the Relizon Building at Patterson Blvd. and Monument Ave. They played Monk's "Straight No Chaser" and "Well, You Needn't" and also did a beautiful job on promoter Ron Gable's favorite, "Willow Weep For Me". Wednesdays are getting to be a hot night in the area. Dave Greer's Classic Jazz Stompers are at the Crowne Plaza's Stars Lounge through the end of the year and, if they keep drawing the crowds they've been getting, maybe beyond that. Last week they had a good crowd and played such diverse tunes as "Diga Diga Doo", Duke Ellington's classic "Black and Tan Fantasy" and "Ory's Creole Trombone" with Gordon Moore playing the part of Kid Ory. Trumpeter Mike Teckenbrock and guitarist Jim Smith are playing Wednesdays at the Tuscany Grille, 129 Franklin St. in Bellbrook. Music gets under way at 7 p.m. Of course, the Blue Wisp Big Band plays at the club of the same name in Cincinnati every Wednesday. Call (513) 241-WISP for reservations.

Extractions: Jazz Scene 102903 By Don Henke Take two female vocalists of disparate styles and temperaments, mix with a rhythm section made up of three of the finest musicians in the area, give them two nights at Cincinnati's premier jazz club - and what do you get? You get "Two Vocalists, Two Nights" at the Blue Wisp last weekend. Six months ago Pamela Mallory and April Aloisio didn't know each other. Now they're the best of friends and they've worked up an act together. Pianist Jeff Hufnagle, bassist Bill Jackson and drummer Jim Leslie rounded out the group that played Saturday night. Brazilian tunes, jazz tunes with Eddie Jefferson and Jon Hendricks lyrics, standards, scat singing and wordless vocals (there's a difference) - all were tossed into the bouillabaise concocted by these two lovely ladies. And what a stew it was. They sang individually and in duets, sometimes accompanying themselves on shakers. The audience enjoyed it and the singers seemed to be having as much fun as the crowd did. Not to mention the musicians. This was one of the tightest rhythm sections you'll find. Hufnagle and Leslie came down from Dayton and Jackson, although a Cincinnati resident, plays enough in Dayton to hold dual citizenship. The ladies threw charts at them or just counted off the tempo. They played perfectly. The whole thing worked beautifully. The two singers are hoping to do it again sometime.

Extractions: The pipe organ at Notre-Dame de Montréal Basilica, Montreal The organ is a type of keyboard musical instrument, distinctive because the sound is not produced by a percussion action, as on a piano or celesta, or by means of vibrating strings, as on the harpsichord. Instead, pipe organs produce sound by means of flowing air. Organs date back to medieval times, when they originated as portable instruments used for accompaniment in choral music. As the instruments became larger, they were installed permanently in a fashion similar to the church organs of today.

Extractions: It is observed that the whole history of jazz can be read through the chart of the stylistic development of the pianists. They started it all and other instrumentalists use the techniques which they developed. Even if the pianist is not the star, he is a kind of an aristocrat. He is practically alone and can manage by himself if necessary. Over the years, respect for the role of the jazz pianist has increased. This page will eventually be more descriptive and include many more pianists. I am gradually writing more on people and gathering links. If you would like me to hurry up on one person in particular that you see below, let me know. Tell me who I need to add to this list!!! Send me links, anecdotes, samples of their work, anything.. And yes, you can nominate yourself to be on here. This list is for any jazz pianist. Thanks to all of you who have already submitted information and links!!! Luke Gillespie
