Nicolas Cage plays twin brothers, Charlie and Donald Kaufman, who have very different approaches to screenwriting. Faced with the arduous task of adapting Susan Orlean's book on flowers, 'The Orchid Thief', screenwriter Charlie Kaufman struggles to fashion a truthful treatment of the material until he hits upon the age-old writer's reaction to writer's block. Extractions: "Man alive, the number of people who want to be film composers these days... it used to be that when people wanted to be in music, they wanted to be a great pianist or a Broadway songwriter. Then, everybody wanted to be in a band. Now, everyone's already in a band, and they want to make money by scoring films." Lukas Kendall I think it's great that film music is being taken seriously to the point where so many people want to get into it. But like screenwriting or professional athletics, this is a field where the available slots are few, and the hopefuls are many. To start, two tips, from my own personal observations. If you want to be a film composer: 1) Don't try to be John Williams. So many people, especially young people, want to be film composers because they love big, sweeping, beautiful orchestral romantic musiclike the kind John Williams writes! This is a problem in that this is only a tiny fragment of what it is filmmakers are looking for in film score. Keep in mind, I am not talking about John Williams per se most directors would give their left nut for himbut the kind of melodic, symphonic score he has done on a specific type of fantasy film. For one thing, John Williams is around 500 times smarter than most anyone reading this, and he can do these types of scores and make them great, instead of bloated and cliched. More practically, only a specific type of movie that requires a
Canconrox - Backstabbers Country Stringband - Let The Sunshine In review Let The Sunshine In By rachel Jagt Rambles ballad Cincinnati, Ohio , featuringChris quinn s bass vocal vocals and ex-Blue Rodeo pianist Bob Wiseman http://www.canadianbands.com/indies_Backstabbers.html
Extractions: By Rachel Jagt - Rambles - a cultural arts magazine Toronto-based country crooners The Backstabbers have outdone themselves on their third and latest release, which is their first studio-recorded project. This disc is made up of excellent reworkings of classic country songs and a few really good originals penned by frontmen Bob Hannan and "Colonel" Tom Parker. The band features Parker on mandolin, Hannan on guitar and autoharp, Tony Allen on fiddle, Oliver Bielefeld on accordion, and James "Jimmy Jazz" Thomson on stand up bass. Joining the guys throughout the record are Bob Wiseman, Burke Carroll, Chris Coole, Chris Quinn, Erynn Marshall, and Alec Fraser, who also shares producing credit with Parker and Hannan. Helping out with harmony vocals on four tracks is the lovely miss Kristine Schmitt, a fixture at their live shows. She sounds great with Parker and Hannan and adds a real classic mountain country flavour to the songs. The original compositions are the best tracks on the record. Parker's "The Prayer Line" (featuring his Johnny Cash-esque monologue) and "Don't Throw the Baby Out With the Bathwater" sound like they were written in the days of the Carter family and fit right in with standards like "Let the Sunshine In" and "Likes Likker Better Than Me". Hannan also penned two tracks on the record, the ballad "Right Out Loud" and the inspirational "I'm Gonna Rise and Fall". "Right Out Loud", featuring Burke Carroll on pedal steel, is a sad song about the folly of pride in a relationship.

Extractions: Rush Funeral Home Ask those families we have served... Konrad's Register Book Back to Obituaries Konrad Kjerstad, 81, of Quinn, SD, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004. He was born June 7, 1922, with Addora Johannesen as midwife. He was raised, lived, and passed away on the Kjerstad Elm Creek Homestead place that his father homesteaded in 1908. He was the youngest child of ten children born to Emil Kjerstad Sr. and Gurine Ellingsen Kjerstad. There were eight sons, and two daughters. Konrad and his brothers helped on the farm; they spent many days herding sheep, his mother telling them to stay on their horses because of the rattlesnakes. He said he thought he even slept on his horse. They milked cows, and had a lot of chores; did up wood to burn and ice to use in the hot weather. His family were all very musical, they played and sang at church and many Farmers Union gatherings in SD. A very special event was when his sister, Marie, and brothers Lawrence, George, Elnoris, and himself were invited to be on WNAX Yankton, SD, radio station with George B. German. They played their instruments, Konrad on the harmonica. He was 12 years old and George B. German shook his hand and told him he did a great job.

Because of this it seems particularly appropriate to focus on words from Dr. Suzuki in which he draws a parallel between the sprouting seed and ability development. These quotes are from Nurtured by Love. We don't see the seed that is planted in the ground, but water, temperature, light, and shade act daily as stimuli; little by little there is an unseen change, up to a certain day when the sprout appears. Once a shoot comes out into the open, it grows faster and faster No doubt it is the same with a human being. Whatever he learns, the beginning will be slow until the "bud of ability" takes hold. This procedure requires time, but gradually a high ability develops. Isn't this true? To think it is hopeless or to give up because at first there are no visible results makes all the former training done with so much trouble a waste. Let's think again of the example of a tree. A seed is planted in the earth. We don't see when the germination begins. That is the doing of Mother Nature; It is the fundamental working principle. We have to wait patiently. We cannot dig up the seed to see whether it is really growing; to do so would be to destroy everything.
