Extractions: Buy one from zShops for: Artist: Fryderyk Chopin and Jon Nakamatsu Tracks: Average review score: Beautiful and Captivating Mr. Nakamatsu's Chopin interpretation is absolutely beautiful and poetic, and it does not suffer from the quirky eccentricities that some performers add into their interpretations- instead, it is fresh, clear, precise, dynamic, and captivating. A negative is that the recording suffers from some echoing reverbs. However, this is more than made up for by the amazing Steinway concert grand that Mr. Nakamatsu used for the recording: it has a brilliantly rich and sonorous tone that magically assists him in conveying the deep emotions and the lyrical richness of Chopin's music- indeed, this is one of the best pianos I have ever listened to. Lovely Playing!

ECYS has got Nakamatsu and CYS the history. Here's a guide of what to expect this month from these two groups and more. Jon Nakamatsu came home. But if you missed his performance last Saturday with the San Jose Symphony, there's no need to panic. He's coming back to the Bay Area in just a week to perform Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 with ECYS at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10. "It's a big event. I'm looking forward to it," said Nakamatsu. Nakamatsu, best known for his win at the 1997 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, is also locally remembered as a Stanford University alumnus and former Saint Francis High School German teacher. Although Nakamatsu now tours nationwide with 60-80 concerts a year, he still makes regular stops in the Bay Area. "Playing for the hometown crowd is really fun. You can't disappoint the people who supported you for so long," he said on Sunday.
