Extractions: Below is a partial list of Canadian agents operating in the United States entertainment industry. This list should be considered CLASSIFIED TOP SECRET, and should be treated accordingly.... Adams, Bryan : "Everything I Do, I Do It For You" is dedicated to the Canadian Parliament. Anderson, Pamela : "This agent, from [Comox], is now considered to be THE PRIME DISTRACTOR of men in America. While this distraction is of primary importance, many strategists feel that the consternation of the female companions of these men does even more to further our ends. Some even say that, if we can get this kind of reaction from the average Canadian girl, maybe we should send the REALLY gorgeous ones. For some reason, the men around the table always vote this idea down." [Reported by Secret Agent Malcom, with correction from Secret Agent Steve.] Anka, Paul : "My Way" is the Canadian way, no matter what Frank Sinatra thinks. Also wrote the theme music for Johnny Carson's "The Tonight Show", thus giving subliminal messages about Canada to millions of American insomniacs. Assuras, Thalia

Extractions: Montgomery, Alabama Sponsored by Huntingdon College, the first F. Scott and Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald Festival took place in Montgomery, Alabama, on 28 June-1 July 1996. Modeled loosely on the successful annual Faulkner and Yoknapatawpha Conference in Oxford, Mississippi, FitzFest, as it quickly became known, was designed not as an academic conference, but as a broader celebration, particularly of the Fitzgeralds' ties to Montgomery and the South. Using the Huntingdon campus as a base, FitzFest's organizers recruited support from the Montgomery community, including the F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Participants attended lectures, shared meals, picnics, receptions, and a "Roaring Twenties" costume ball, and toured Fitzgerald sites in Montgomery. The Montgomery Museum presented an exhibition of Zelda Fitzgerald paintings, and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival staged a private reading of A Piece of Paradise , a new play about the Fitzgeralds in Montgomery, by Montgomery author Wayne Greenhaw. A Festival on the Green provided Twenties-era music, a modern dance performance, and an exhibition of automobiles from the Twenties and Thirties.

Extractions: th Season Crown Imperial warmed them up and then all was well. IRONICALLY, there was a popular song based on one of the main themes from the symphony which concluded this programme which began: "This is the story of a starry night"! This night was, of course, very wet and cold, but the substantial audience had not been deterred, although it took until the second occurrence of the big tune in Walton's Crown Imperial for the orchestra to warm up. Thereafter however, all was well. This march, written for the coronation of George VI, is popular with many and recognised by most, and is most demanding for any orchestra. The piece depends on a robust but controlled brass section and alert, dynamically sensitive percussion both of which were well-defined elements in this performance. Louise Dunsby's rendering of Mozart's Piano Concerto No 23 in A major, which completed the first half of the programme, was deservedly well-received. Ms. Dunsby studied at the RCM Junior Department with the highly accomplished Thalia Myers whose British Piano Music of the 1980s has remained among my favourite recorded collections of 20th century piano music since its release some 13 years ago. I was intrigued by the prospect of hearing one of her pupils perform and as is so often the case with musicians who reach an exceptionally high standard very early (Ms Dunsby is still in her teens), the only criticisms that could be applied are those which one would normally direct at a player who is far older and more experienced - except the older, more experienced player is unlikely to grow out of his or her faults.

Extractions: Nearly News Working against relatively light Iraqi resistance, U.S. and British forces were, for the most part, hitting their intended targets, although Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said there have been some glitches in what is now a three-night series of air strikes. In an echo of the Persian Gulf War, U.S. officials showed aircraft videotape showing laser-guided bombs slamming into an array of targets, including radar stations, a missile storage facility, and a missile production plant. As the third wave of strikes continued today, Cohen said there had been no U.S. or British casualties. U.S. aircraft drop leaflets over Iraqi forces stationed in southern Iraq imploring them to stay in their bases and not threaten neighboring Kuwait or Saudi Arabia. The messages in Arabic said the forces would be attacked if they mobilized but spared if they stayed put, Shelton said. In a reflection of the difficulty of precision airstrikes even against light resistance, Wilson showed charts indicating only a handful of targets were judged to have been destroyed, with some misses and some moderate damage.
