National Jazz Development Officers Activity Report described in this forum as the myers/Rechniewski symbiotic nexus? mark Isaacsis an internationallydistinguished, Sydney-based jazz pianist and composer http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/markisaacs/ozjazzforum/Mark Isaacs_2.htm
Extractions: National Jazz Development Officers activity report by Mark Isaacs The April/May 2001 Issue of Jazzchord featured a detailed outline provided by the National Jazz Development Office of its activities. Firstly, there is the report on the National Strategic Plan for Jazz Development (published in full in the same issue). Not mentioned of course is the failure of the consultative process with the wider jazz community in the formulation of this Plan. In a document entitled Victorian Response to National Strategic Plan the Victorian Jazz Development Committee's position is stated thus: "We feel that we must express our strong concern about the timing and extent of national consultation on the first draft of the Plan". The fact is that after tokenistic consultation on this first draft, the "final" version suddenly appeared two years later with absolutely no intervening dialogue. Also included in the Victorian document are many major criticisms of the Plan itself. Sighted also has been another document containing numerous criticisms of the Plan that came from the Tasmanian jazz infrastructure. Rumblings from Western Australia and artist criticism round out the unhappy picture. Given the extent of dissatisfaction with the document and the process that led to its formulation, the National Office's description of it as "splendid" is highly contestable. Surely the hallmark of a "splendid" document would be one that had achieved deep and general consensus within the community at large.
