Extractions: In November 1995, Pekka Kuusisto became the first Finnish violinist to win the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki and was additionally awarded the special prize for the best performance of the Sibelius Concerto. Since then, he has embarked on an international career as well as continuing to perform with numerous Finnish orchestras, including the Finnish Radio Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic and Lahti Symphony, with whom he toured to Japan in 1999. Since 1996 performances have included concerts with many major orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, Czech Philharmonic, Swedish Radio, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Hessischer Rundfunk, Cleveland and Philharmonia orchestras. He is also a regular visitor to all the major Finnish orchestras. Conductor champions include Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temikanov, Osmo Vänska, Paavo Berglund, Thomas Dausgaard, and Leif Segerstam. Pekka also works regularly with Vladimir Ashkenazy who invited him to join the Czech Philharmonic on a South American tour in 2000. In summer 2001 he made his debuts with the Chicago Symphony (at the Ravinia Festival with Christoph Eschenbach), Detroit Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony and Philadelphia orchestras.

Acclaimed for his infectious enthusiasm of the music, Pekka has since performed with many of the worlds most prestigious orchestras such as Chicago Symphony, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Philharmonia orchestras and with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Osmo Vanska, Paavo Berglund, Thomas Dausgaard and Leif Segerstam. He has performed with chamber orchestras such as the Nieuw Sinfonietta in Amsterdam and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, and frequently returns to the Australian Chamber Orchestra as a guest director. Highlights of the 2003/4 season include concerts with Londons Philharmonia Orchestra and Vladimir Ashkenazy, Zurichs Tonhalle Orchestra and David Zinman and return visits to Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Swedish Chamber and Australian Chamber Orchestras.
