Marv Goldberg's R&B Notebooks - PYRAMIDS sam The Man Taylor (tenor sax), haywood Henry (baritone sax tenor, who was theson of sam McClure, baritone and the session, arranged by pianist Saul Kline http://home.att.net/~marvart/Pyramids/pyramids.html
Extractions: The origins of the Pyramids go back to around 1955, at the Mount Zion Seventh Day Adventist Church, on Dickerman Street. There, some choir members got together to sing gospel music. Joe Stallings (tenor lead), Hubert Saulsbury (first tenor), Roland Douglas, Jr. (baritone), and Richard Foster (bass) comprised this nameless quartet. After this, the usual depression set in: no money and few jobs. Doug McClure left, and was replaced by Richard Freeman. This only lasted a short while, however, and it was soon all over for the Pyramids. Both Richard Freeman and Roland Douglas went off to join Fred Parris in the Scarlets/5 Satins. While Richard stayed, Roland didn't, making no recordings with the group.

Charles' endless love for classical music and popular love songs shone through each and every performance and his energy and warmth flowed across the stage as a whole new generation discovered his glowing talent. A contemporary of Nat 'King' Cole in his early days, Charles helped popularize what became known as 'cocktail blues'; indeed, tho' his songs often told tragic tales, his velvet-coated voice overcame the subject matter, hypnotizing the listener as he caressed each well-crafted lyric.

Mary Pearson You And I-Liner Notes I added a few songs with pianist Lynne Arriale their inspiration and encouragement, thanks to sam Arlen, Nancy Barell, Michael Bourne, haywood Burns, Ed http://www.view.com/ar71325-liner.html
Extractions: Liner Notes by Michael Bourne "Lazy Afternoon" is the perfect prelude, instantly drawing the listener in. "Take Five" is all longing and suggestion and seduction. "The More I See You" is considered by Mary to be the definitive song on the album. Other highlights include the three original love songs by Mary, songs that, once heard by other singers, I expect will be sung more and more. You And I is a virtual suite of love songs, a seamless tapestry of romance. "You And I is about intimacy, devotion, seduction, passion and love. It's you and I from beginning to end." It's also the first album from the first singer signed to Arkadia Jazz and one hopes, just the first of many to come from this uniquely lyrical jazz singer, Mary Pearson. Michael Bourne
