Extractions: Review: Texas Chamber Orchestra takes joy in precision with Hadyn, Mozart works 12:59 AM CST on Sunday, November 9, 2003 By OLIN CHISM / The Dallas Morning News ADDISON José Feghali is well known in this area as a pianist. On Saturday night he took up another instrument, the conductor's baton, while not relinquishing his first musical love. Mr. Feghali joined the Texas Chamber Orchestra for a concert in the Addison Theatre Centre. Mr. Feghali is the orchestra's new artistic adviser. It was clear from the opening notes on Saturday that he has a fine group to work with. The Texas Chamber Orchestra is an alert and precise group of professionals who project a real musical personality. The concert was a joyful occasion, not least because it was devoted to the music of Haydn that master of musical good cheer and his friend Mozart. The pianistic part of the concert was Haydn's Concerto in D major, Hoboken listing XVIII:11, and Mozart's Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467. Mr. Feghali was the soloist; he conducted from the piano. From both piano and orchestra there was crisp, precise playing that beautifully captured the high spirits of Haydn's wonderful concerto. The only real negative was the dry acoustics of the theater, which gave the instruments extraordinary clarity of sound but robbed them of the projection and resonance that let a performance bloom. A lesser orchestra would have been cruelly exposed, but the precision of the Texas Chamber Orchestra was such that exposure was no bother.

The Nashville Symphony 1 for Violin in A minor and his Concerto for 2 Violins in D minor on March 5 and6, and a second with pianist jose feghali, who will interpret VillaLobos http://nashvillesymphony.org/news/releases_brazil.html
Extractions: NASHVILLE, Tenn., February 24, 2004 - March is going to be an exciting time for Nashville Symphony audiences, because between March 5 and 20 The Symphony will explore the works of Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, his love of the indigenous songs and dances of his homeland, and how J.S. Bach so greatly influenced his compositional style. From his earliest years, Villa-Lobos was enthralled with the sounds and ceremonies of his native Brazil so much so that he made several trips to the Brazilian interior to study them, says Nashville Symphony Music Director Kenneth Schermerhorn. As a result, much of his music shows the profound influence of the melodies, rhythms and sonorities that he discovered there. Villa-Lobos was almost certainly equally impacted by Bach, he adds. He became a major influence on Villa-Lobos during Villa-Lobos years spent studying in Paris in the late 1920s. In fact, it was Bachs influence that led to the composition of the nine works Villa-Lobos titled Bachianas Brasileiras
