Extractions: A brilliant start to a career: Sharon Bezaly began to play the flute at age eleven. Three years later, she appeared as soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta. With breathtaking speed, Bezaly worked her way to the top of her field internationally. She studied at the famed Paris Conservatoire and perfected her technique, particularly circular breathing, with Aurele Nicolet. The richness of colour and emotional depth of her playing thrill audiences and professionals alike. But every work by Haydn contains its surprises and these piano sonatas from his maturity are full of interest. (It is remarkable that the most prolific of classical composers also seem to be the least repetitive!) While music of this dignity can readily be played on a modern grand piano, performance on a period instrument has a special interest. With his wide musical interests Ronald Brautigam is no "period" pianist in the sense of limiting himself to performing on period instruments.
