He was awarded the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1962, for his invention (with John Kendrew ) of crystallographic techniques which allowed them and others to determine the atomic structure of proteins for the first time. Perutz determined the structure of the protein hemoglobin which transports oxygen in blood. He founded the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England His long and productive career in biology continued right up to his death in 2002. This article is a stub .
