With the announcement Oct. 12 that CWRU graduate Ferid Murad, M.D., Ph.D., shares this year's prize in medicine, the pharmacology department can now count three Nobelists on its honor roll, while the medical school brings its total to eight Nobel winners. Murad, currently chairman of the Department of Integrative Biology, Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of Texas-Houston, jointly shared the 1998 Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology with Robert F. Furchgott, Ph.D., of the State University of New York in Brooklyn, and Louis J. Ignarro, Ph.D., of the University of California in Los Angeles.
