I was lucky to be at a "press conference" in which Dr. Lee, a Taiwanese Nobel Laureate (Chemistry, 1986), publicly supported Chen. He also answered questions from reporters. Dr. Lee said that even though he had been very critical of the Chen Administration, he believed that Chen Administration, unlike the opposition, had the capacity and determination to continue the political reform in Taiwan. Abstract Of Yuan T. Lee I02. Crossed Molecular Beam Study of O( l D) + SiH 4 Multiple Reaction Channelswith Different Dynamics. (IAMS and NTU) Jim J. Lin, yuan T. lee and Xueming http://www.ims.ac.jp/sckd/lee_abstract.html
Extractions: Department of Chemistry, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, ROC The titled reaction has been studied using a newly built crossed molecular beam apparatus with a universal detector. Angular resolved time-of-flight spectra have been measured for OH, SiO, HSiO (or SiOH), H SiO (or HSiOH), and H SiO (or H SiOH) products. Four distinctive channels have been identified through the analysis of the experimental data: O( l D) + SiH O( l D) + SiH SiO O( l D) + SiH + H SiO O( l D) + SiH + SiO In the OH + SiH channel, the angular distribution of the OH products peaks sharply at forward direction with respect to the O( l D) beam, indicating a direct reaction mechanism i.e. the lifetime of the intermediate is shorter than the rotational period. In the H + H SiO channel, minor amount of H SiO products has been observed with backward angular distribution, which also suggests a direct reaction mechanism. The kinetic energy release of the H + H

The mission of the Academia Sinica is to undertake in-depth academic research on various subjects in the sciences and humanities, and to provide guidelines, channels of coordination, and incentives geared toward raising academic standards in Taiwan. In addition to its research institutes, Academia Sinica's Convocation consists of 225 members, who are all prominent scholars. This body is an advisory arm of the Academia Sinica. Every two years members from all over the world, including six Nobel laureates, meet in Taipei to consult on major issues concerning education, humanities, science, and technology. Dr. Yuan T. Lee, a Nobel laureate in Chemistry in 1986, became President of Academia Sinica in 1994. Under his stewardship, Academia Sinica has been transformed into a modern research institution. Other than the many new programs, Dr. Lee has hosted numerous projects that bring in top-notch scholars to visit Taiwan or to head research teams at this institution.
