Mr. Alferov began his career in politics when he was elected as Peoples Deputy for the term of 1989 to 1991. From 1972 to 1989, he held various positions at the Ioffe Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences concluding with the post of Director. He is the Nobel Prize winner in the sphere of physics and a recipient of numerous awards and honorary titles for his scientific achievements. Zhores Alferof graduated from the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute with a doctorate in physics and math.
